posted 03-06-99 01:35 PM ET I'm playing SMAC under NT4.0 and I know it's not supported, but nevertheless... All sound and voice effects like "TURN COMPLETE" are have an echo halfway through the sound, cutting it off and distorting it. Does anyone have an explanation/bugfix for this?

YEah, I have the same problem. I have service pack 4 and a SB AWE 64. I was getting horrible skipping on the intro movie until I installed the latest SB drivers, now I just get that echoing on all voices. The new DirectX drivers for NT didn't help either.
Now I just play with all sounds off.

I had (at a couple of points) the same problem with WIN 95, so I am unconvinced it is purely NT related.
Mind you the amount of crashing I've had with this game means two reinstallations of Windows (the second after deleting c:\WINDOWS - and that was fun !) and numerous reinstallations of SMAC. If I recall correctly, last night was a 'no sound' period (what did I do to achieve that ?) but it beats the echo.
Now where's that control S button again...
