When I turn on the "show base grid" option under "map preferences," if I've discovered land, the base radius for enemy factions shows. Even if I haven't discovered the base yet. When I was surfing the ocean, I could see the base grid of Spartan bases, even though the bases themselves were too far inland to see. Bug? It can be explained by the fact that human habitation has a visible impact on the surronding landscape so your explorers will notice this and extrapolate the location of a base from the signs. (Well, you can try it that way ...)James |

But doesn't terraforming show signs of improvement by civilization? Other wise, the land is undeveloped.

Yes, only big improvements like farms or solar collectors actually show up on your map. What I think JaimeWolf is saying is that you can assume your explorers are noticing more subtle signs of human occupation and thus extrapolating that there is a base nearby, allowing the grid to appear on your map."Hmmm.... piles of ejected impact-rifle casings, and shot-thru cans of SpartanCola... I reckon some of Santiago's boys n' girls must be quartered nearby." ---Dr. Rolando L'Amour, UoP Scout Patrol leader |
