Make sure you can set your desktop resolution to 800x600x8bit (256 colors) or 1024x768x8bit. It sounds like it's trying to switch to the games resolution and failing. You can check this by right-clicking on the desktop, selecting preferences, then the settings menu tab. jkm firaxis games |

I have a very similar problem with SMAC (and incidentally Sim City 3000 as well). Bizarely enough, if I try to load the game repeatedly, it will eventually run! i would love an explanation of this as it can be very irritating when the game decides to just access the cd for a bit and give up.Ed |

That didnt solve my problem. As soon as I try to load the game, it looks like it starts to, then kicks out to Windows. Its literrally less than a second. It does the same when I try to play it from the CD or anywhere. Help!

Might be your desktop resolution. Try manually setting your desktop to 800x600x8bit (256 colors) or 1024x768x8bit. Often if you don't setup a monitor, it defaults to standard VGA, limiting you to 640x480.jkm firaxis games |

You know it was a monitor problem. Weird though, didnt effect any of my other games. |

I'm glad to hear you were able to discover the source of your problem. I am also having trouble starting the game, but for a different reason. For some reason, the program thinks I am running Sound Recorder. I discovered this by trying to access the .wav files. The same problem frequently occurs when trying to run Caesar III. Multiple resets seem to fix the problem, at least until the next time I start my system. |
