Could someone from Firaxis tell me how to fix the stuttering? I have a 200 mHz Pentium, 64 megs of RAM, DierectX 6.0 or 6.1, Mwave Sound Card, and a Monster Fusion Sound Card. Please help tech support, I don't want to buy a new sound card when it works fine in everything else!

I am having the same problem with a 266 Mhz, 128 Mb memory, SoundBlaster card setup. I'm running the required drivers, so what's up?

And it is REALLY annoying....

Are there any tech support people from Firaxis who read this forum? If not, where do I get tech support?

The official tech support is listed in the back of the install guide.

If you're having this problem with v2.0, try setting your EAX and DS3D to 0 in the alpha centauri.ini file.

Setting DS3D and EAX to zero in the ini file makes no difference to the stuttering on my system, which is a P-100 with an ESS-688 soundcard so maybe it's unfixable.

Not on Monster soundcards. Does DX certify your soundcard (the ess)? Also, you're slightly below the minimum requirements, which might attribute to the problem.

I tried setting my EAX and DS3D to 0 in the alpha centauri.ini file. Apparently, it did not work. What do I do now, besides buy a new sound card? (which I will NOT do) I do not understand how this problem is only occuring in Alpha Centauri...

Here's one to check...When is it stuttering? Opening a city view? When you build a colony pod or something similar? If you swap file is active, and a sound starts up, most of the time, it will either get garbled or stutter. I turned my music off and fixed almost all those problems..Heh

Well, it stutters the moment I turn the thing on (Music, voices, sounds). The only thing that does not stutter are the movies.

not good support/replies here from tech support. The above gentleman's problem is not "being slightly under the min requirements". I have the exact same problem. *Everything* stutters (except movies, if I recall correctly). The sound effects, the guy saying "drone riots", everything else. I have tried the "full install" so as not to need the CD. Furthermore, SMAC is the only application that stutters. As to min requirements, I have. Dell P2-450. 128 meg memory. 40X CD-ROM, Diamond MX300 sound.

There is a stutter bug.

I've got a Pentium 233mmx, 32 meg ram, An Aztech sound blaster pro and directx 6. When I turn the game on it keeps making a noise. It's so annoying

I've got an Aztech on a Celeron 450, 194MB and it butchers the sound as well. (cheap card, I know) My Awe64 at home now works much better with the 3.0 patch on my PR200, 32 MB. One thing that freaked me out is the first time I built a project under 3.0. It said "Project" and then the screen went blank. I thought it crashed, but it was just starting the movie. When the movie was finished, it came back and said "Complete".

I gave up complaining about this bug a while back because Firaxis chose to ingnore it..

I do not think they know how to fix it.

I had the same problem in the demo, the final release, and every patch since.

The stuttering occurs occasionally when building a new base or discovering a new tech and similar activities.

Somtimes it's so severe that it nearly crashes your computer, but it generally pulls through.

I cannot believe that Firaxis are asking exactly the same questions as they did months ago about the same problem.

FIRAXIS, get the point please that this has nothing to do with system specs. This guy above me has a dell pII 450, it is a grand scale problem. Stop trying to blame the end user and attack the problem head on.

It is a very annoying bug in the game. Half life also has stuttering problems occasionally aswell. SO I am assuming this kind of thing cannot be fixed with small patch, but firaxis should at least acknowledge it, instead of tech support saying "well, you are below the minimum specs", or "reinstall directX (blaming it on Microsoft)".
