That damned terran.exe crash... Whenever I try to start the game it crashes... I get the blue-screen and then I have to reboot. I was hoping that the problem would be fixed in the 2.0 patch, but, well... I think I've tried most things suggested on this board for fixing the prob. but no good. Also, it seems most people get the crash after playing some turns, but I can't even get into the game... please help... jeff? anyone... ?

Did you try the hardware acceleration set to 0? What about renaming the sound.dll? What's your hardware and what have you tried.jkm firaxis games |

Here's my hardware:Intel Pentium 166MhZ Asustek P/I-P55T2P4 mainboard 64 Mb EDO RAM 2,5 Gb / 6,4 Gb Quantum Fireball HDD ATI Graphics Pro Turbo PCI (mach 64) Creative AWE 32 soundcard SONY CDU311 CD-ROM drive I think that's it... Yes, I've renamed sound.dll how do I set hardware acceleration to 0 ? the alpha centauri.ini is empty, nothing I can change... Before the patch I just got a blue-screen, now I get a KERNL3??.exe error first... I don't have anything in my systray (except volume & watch) I have tried different installation options but no good... Think that's all...

Jeff; is 2.0 UK still copyprotected? Could this be what's causing this gentleman's problems? It certainly displays the right symptoms? CarnbY: Try and reinstall the game, get the US version of terran.exe (I've seen the URL a couple of other places in this forum) and then apply the US 2.0 patch. See if the problem persists, and report back... -- Rune |

Oh yeah... I forgot that... I've already tried what you said, and I actually got into the game, well, to the main menu at least... Unfortunately, after getting my hopes up it quit and I got a GPF/ bue-screen when starting a new game... thanx anyway dude...Also, I only have about 40Mb free on my C:\ drive, but 1 Gb free on the drive I've installed AC. Could that cause the problem?

It could. Win95/98 does virtual memory only on drive C: I believe. And I have seen NS Navigator go flaky with a low amount of HD space, as well as other games. It seems that nobody has comprehensive error checking on their memory allocation code. Ah well, us lazy programmers strike again! Try freeing some space up (to say 80 Mb) and see what happens. |

I now have about 100Mb on C:\ The UK version still doesn't work, but I tried again with the US terran.exe and it went smoothly! Considering the amount of people who get problems later in the game I guess I'm still not out of the woods, but at least I'm getting somewhere... Time for sleep, then, tomorrow, finally some SMAC ! sweet... =) |
