Had a fun SMAC game last night, inspired a few thoughts for possible improvements. If there is going to be another patch, please consider the following. 1. It would be nice if there was a "maintain coastline" order that terraformed a square to 990m without effecting neighbouring squares. Right now, it is often impossible to preserve your coastline from global warming if you have friendly neighbours.
2. Similarly, I think there should be a "Reduce base production if eco-damage exceeds X units" base or social order. Perhaps disabled for free-market economies, or only available for green econs. Right now you have to destroy base improvements and/or reduce land usage, giving up other benefits you'd rather keep. Note that this would solve the "Space Elevator drowns you in Mind Worms" problem as well.
3. I'm sure you know this, but the Morgan AI needs help, especially in the early game. In my last game, I knocked Yang off my starting island in the 2270s, and he restarted on a three square island next to Morgan's starting island. (Had three bases at the time.) By the 2290s, the Hive had eradicated Morgan.
I don't think that Morgan is especially weak when played by a human, but the AI seems to be unable to exploit his advantages.
Comments? Criticism? Other ideas?
