Okay.... now.... I've been doing some thinking... and what's this?! Oh! They're giving us a FREE demonstration of the game, more than a month before it's supposed to be even released. I really think that gamers have no right to complain, piss, or moan, if a game doesn't come out on time, the demo has bugs, it isn't released as planned etc. This is due mainly in part to the fact that these people on the development team have worked incessantly on this project, killing bugs, dealing with deadlines, working long nights, so we can play their game. It kind of bothers me that some people will act as if the game producers OWE it to them to get this game to them at a certain date. Had the development team chosen not to do this, we would never be able to play this game. They are in effect doing us a favor by releasing this game; and then that someone goes about being so presumtious as to get pissed off that a demo isn't released ASAP is well, kinda foolish. Basically what I'm thinking is that they need some slack. Mankind has gone for eons without SMAC... I think we can wait 2-4 extra days so that we will have a better playing experience with the demo-version... but that's just me.

Firaxis is a dedicated bunch of people, they care about their fans/gamers and they're probably gamers themselves. Let's face it, the people at Firaxis love to play games and make games to play themselves and to let the rest of the world play too. I think that Firaxis is doing a great job, the fact that they aren't releasing the game before it's ready proves that they care about gamers. They don't want to force us to download a bunch of patches and that's pretty considerate. There's also the fact that Firaxis won't make any money from SMAC is it's not released, so it's obvious that they want to release the game as much as we want them too. So let's cut them some slack PEOPLE!

I think it's safe to say that the majority of the people here want a bug-free and enjoyable product and are quite willing to wait for it. The number of people actually doing serious complaining about missed dates is really quite small.

More people were belly-aching about a lack of communication (even just one-line weekly updates) which is somewhat justified if you look at the behaviors of other game companies. Gamers have come to expect a little pampering (we're the ones spending the money afterall!) and that isn't a bad thing.

I think a fair bit of the whining is honestly not serious and just tongue-in-cheek moaning.

I'd like to assume that everyone here is quite happy with the recent news and is capable of waiting for another week or so. I know I can wait.

Besides, I think the guys at Firaxis deserve at least a weekend off!
