Does anyone know if SMAC has gone gold yet? It was supposed to between the 10th & the 15th. According to one of Brian's posts their target date was the 10th, and with the demo following 5 days later...well I'm sure we can all do the math. However I have not seen any official notification from Firaxis that the gold version has shipped. I'm assuming this to mean it is not done. Does anyone else know anything?

Good luck--I've been trying to find this out for the last two days. I'm also assuming that it hasn't mastered yet. Either that, or Firaxis is playing its cards awfully close to its chest.

In browsing the newsgroups the last few days I can definitely concur that Lee has been busy looking for answers.

Out of curiousity, I've been following Baldur's Gate. What's kind of funny about BG is that I think 4 out of it's 5 CD's have been duplicated and the manuals printed about a week ago, but everyone's still waiting for CD 1 to be finished. My point is that SMAC definitely isn't the only game to go through a hectic finishing phase.

Maybe SMAC went gold a couple of days ago, but then the entire Firaxis team had a big party and then went into cryogenic fugue to make up for all the lost sleep. Could you imagine Sid, Brian, and Co. all waking up today and say "Crud! We forgot to tell everyone the game went gold! Arg, we forgot to send the game off for duplication!"

I agree, I wish Firaxis would throw us a bone on this and let us know what's up.

Yes. It's the total absence of news from Firaxis that I find frustrating, because I don't know how to set my expectations as a result. The mastering of the game is a key milestone for the release of the demo, but since Brian publicized the details, the deadline has come and gone without any news as to whether the milestone was reached. That's left a lot of people hanging around to stare at the timer and wonder whether anything is going to happen when it runs out.

I'd be happy with a quick, "The game hasn't mastered yet. We're working hard over here and hope to finish up soon. Regretfully, the demo will be delayed as a result."

From past experience with CivII and Gettysburg!, we know that Brian is pretty forthcoming on the newsgroup once a game is done and the pressure's off. His absence there speaks volumes.

Look, for one thing, they never said it (the deom) would be 5 days after going gold. They said 5-10 days, which puts the last date at the 20th. So I suggest do the math on those figures, not wrong ones.

But yes, the silence is frustrating. But, most companies are like that, so it doesn't really bother me.

I mentioned in a previous thread about Baldur's Gate. The company has been pretty communacative with fans, but that has perhaps worked against them a little bit lately. Gamecenter was poking fun at them when they said "The Baldur's Gate registration card has gone gold!"

It only puts the demo date on the 20th if they finished by the 10th. The fulfilment of that little condition is *all* I've been trying to confirm these last three days.
