Basically if you were here when the very first SMAC addiction thread was created, you are a first-one. That doesn't mean no one else can post here, anyone is welcome to come and speak with the First-Ones.

I've been a fan of SMAC since before the acronym was invented. I've been frequenting the Firaxis forums since, oh, January or February or so, and the alphacentauri.com forums since before they were officially open.

I wonder if the Firaxians paid any attention to my suggestions for technologies related to 'body-sculpting'... they've had plenty of time to think them over.

Yeah, count me in there. I think I'm the oldest here (well, from the old Firaxis forums), as in no-one has ever said they remember me arriving, anyway (as in they were there before me). I do remember a few from near when I got on, but not too many.
A LOT of people claim they lurked for a while, but can they really be believed? I could say I lurked since 1987, and no-one could contradict me. Well, except I suppose Firaxis wasn't around in 1987.
I remember the video card debate, heh heh. I was one of the major protagonists. I remember it was a good couple of months after I first got there.

Brother Greg, I thought you were one of the "debaters" but I was not sure. I'm getting to be an old man now and my memory is just not what it used to be.
Oooohhhhh those were the days. That was back when the projected release date was "summer 1998". The game looked really good, so I figured "OK I'll hang out for 3 or 4 months at the forums. It has been about 9 months since I first logged on to the Firaxis BB.
I've come to the conclusion that If it were not for the fact that there are a good group of people here, I would of left long ago!
I better go now, I'm starting to get "misty".
All this reminiscing is making me teary eyed.

Yeah, my memory ain't what it used to be either. I can barely even remember who half of the old-timers are anymore. And with the not so old timers, I can't even remember when they joined in relation to each other...
And I can't even remember exactly when I joined. I think it was Jan/Feb, but I could be wrong. I remember it wasn't too long after Firaxis formed (officially). Been a long time, anyway.
When I sort of disappeared for a while (to get married and all), I found myself missing all the friends I had made, and had to come back. All in all, they're a good bunch, and we all get on together pretty well (surprisingly, even when we argue about religion, sex or politics).
Ah, now I'm getting all misty eyed...

I was here back on the old Firaxis forums when Gettysburg first hit the scene. Why, Sid Meier himself personally responded to one of my posts! I miss those days, when the Firaxis team was new and excited about their first game-- they responded to everything! *wipes tear from eye*

Excellent to see some of the old names back.
As for being a first one, participating in the first SMACA thread secures your spot. As for all the lurkers around, well it depends on how active they became.
Now on to Jimbo, the dumpsters gone. I've moved up in the world to a 10.5 million dollar mansion with a 5 million dollar house in the mountains of Colorado (don't ask how, I'd have to kill you if I told you). So I guess I'm doing good.
jsorense, how could I forget you. Look where I am now. None of this would have been possible without that first job and bullet.
BTW, does anyone have an estimate on the total number of SMACA threads and posts? I know it's a long shot but I can't quite remember the ball park figure. I know it got to over 10 threads....
