Actually Firaxis hasn't given me the envelope yet, but I expect them to any day now. Of course DJ Rebel has probably figured out all 25 testers by now, but it's nice to get official word.
Unfortunately, with the demo probably coming out 12/20, I'm worried that we may not hear much from the beta testers after Xmas because people are travelling, etc. I guess the demo doesn't mean much to the beta testers since they've probably seen more than the demo will have.
Anxiously awaiting beta tester comments,

I haven't been posting recently? Ugh, now that's just not fair. I been posting a lot. If you remember back, I was always a quality, not a quantity poster. So my three hundred forty odd posts are probably worth about 2000 of anyone else's posts.
Okay, well, maybe not.
Still, I'm not a beta tester. Said it before, say it again. I tend to think we won't know most of them. It was probably advertised on Newsgroups as well, so most of them probably came from there. Or lurkers who happened to read that post and sent their resumes off.
Tho, did you notice TAS didn't deny it? hmmm...

I'd put money on Apocolypse being a Beta tester. The sudden reversal from hundreds of posts a day, the questions he asked about what to put on his application, His sudden exasperation with the off topic posts. All that and the timescales they happened on add up I'm sure he must be. I don't think he's ever denied it either (or else I missed it)

Here's my guess. All of the beta testers were definitely forum regulars, so they collaborated together for excuses for why they stopped posting.
Here's the list of excuses.
1) Off-topicness in the forums.
2) School (I don't believe this one for a second cuz I always had time to screw around in school)
3) Marriage (yeah, right!)
Now of course forumers like DJ RRebel (aka MikeH) would get suspicious and call these people to task. Fortunately for the beta testers, the Monica Lewinsky stuff has been going on for a while, so they've had a chance to learn to use Clintonesque denials of their beta testing involvement.
Since, I'm not nearly as diligent as others on this forum, perhaps someone like DJR could gather up all the supposed denials we've heard. Of course, by the time that happens the NDA will be lifted and we'll find out for sure.

Zan Thrax, many have not been accused. I don't know if you were there i8n the beginning. I was not. If I understand correctly, Firaxis took its betatesters in the Forums. So all the old-timers are accusing each others of being beta-testers.

Though I did play a couple of games of Civ2 a few weeks back. Once again, going to bed at 3, getting up at 6... yow!

I think everyone is coming back because we're looking for news about the demo! I have Baldur's Gate on order, am waiting for Everquest, but I've been avoiding other turn-based strategy games (aside from Civ2) while waiting for SMAC to come out. Gar! I need my SMAC fix!
