Would humanity be doomed to live out the same mistakes it has made on Earth no matter where we relocated to?

Yeah, most definatly. Greed, hate, ignorance, arrogance, etc. are part of human nature, therefore the actions resulting from those traits will be done wherever we relocate. the best we can do is to supress those undesirable traits, and minimize the resulting actions. |

Nope. It should relocate to ancient Sinai, as when the Israelis were in exile their rules people wrote down all the laws and it seems all the bad people got eaten by earth, smitten by fire, etc. A pretty good incentive to act nicely in my humble opinion. |

Yeah, but without anything short of divine intervention or (possibly) incredibly harsh law, there'd always be someone who is crazy enough to commit genocide, etc. |

I got two words for you: THE HIVEIf we can find a way to eliminate greed from our people, then the world might be a more perfect place. Then again, it might turn us all into unemotional Vulcan bastards. Either way, we will get to drink lots of beer, so lets do it! |

Nope. View the Chin dynasty in ancient China, after Shi Huang Ti reunifed China, he instituted an incredibly harsh system of laws. The result was that after his death, massive revolts toppled the empire without his genius on the throne. I think what started them were a platoon of draftees stuck in the mud, doing some project: "What's the penalty for being late?" "Death." "What's the penalty for revolt?" "Death." "Well guess what? We're late!"They slaughtered their officers and revolted. And the rest was history. That's why heavenly harsh punishments can work but earthly ones don't. |
