Maybe the greatest part of Starcraft is the fact that free multiplayer gaming comes with the game. Hopefully SMAC will see this and follow suit!

I think I got a mail long ago stating that there wil be a battle.net type server, but I doubt that it is official.I certainly hope that there will be one Ciao Marian Editor of the Alpha Centauri Zone http://www.juhu.de/hartel/alpha |

Did this become a double thread on its own, or did he hit 'POST NEW TOPIC' twice?? A battlenet type server would be cool. It would be easier to play a good multi game, & look at the success of battle.net! Except those losers who build a couple things, then turn thier computer off. But Yo_Yo_Yo_Heyit is hard to prevent something like what you mentioned, even if you play a normal multiplayer game. We just kick them out of the league, if that happens to often and we are sure it was done on purpose. Ciao Marian Editor of the Alpha Centauri Zone http://www.juhu.de/hartel/alpha

First, put enough question marks after the title chirsk?Yes, a metaserver style system would be nice (I'm assuming that battle.net and bungie.net are nearly identical, which I understand them to be). But I'd expect most matches still to be prearranged, i.e. "Hey Imran, let's have liberals vs. conservatives game on firaxis.net. Paw, ZanThrax and myself can take you and AUH20 and TAS, and we'll grab some rabble hanging around firaxis.net to be the 7th man." The people hanging around in the lobby could probably get a game going every 10 minutes, if 7 people logged on that often. Continuation would be a problem though for 7 people who never saw each other before, so the game would have to be finished right there in that session. At least the server required would be extremely cheap, since very few people would be active on the metaserver at once; due to the extraordinary length of the games, most people will be playing instead of chatting in the rooms. |
