Hey, these forums are dead. I mean, for people like me who like reading more than posting, it is becoming a site less worth visiting on a regular basis. Thes' fourums ain' wha' d'ustda be. Sob sob.

And I ain't talkin' 'bout posts with /\/o /ntended /\/\eaning (this one's to YYYH, DJRRebel and the gang). Topics for heated discussions that get nexussed because of too many people willing to post. Like the old times. Come on, come on.

You've got to be kidding me right ???
Not all my posts may be 100% on topic, but if even only half of mine were (I know it's alot more, but for the sake of argument), then I'd still have more than 10 times the number of on topic posts as you !!!

Take a look in all the Canadian threads, the religious threads, recently, the Are Chironians humans thread ... I could go on and on !!!

Fact of the matter is, it's people like you who always lurk and don't participate that make it boring !!!

Personally I think the forum is fine the way it is !!!

If you don't like something, then change it, if you want more on-topic posts, then participate in dicussions, you'll help prolong the discussion !!!

Anyways, please don't go knocking me YYYH and the rest of us high posters, because if it weren't for us, there would be nothing to read at all !!!

As it stands, YYYH & I together account for 20% of the posts in here ... you should be thanking us, not complaining !!!

As it stands, I have no need to be thanked though, I post here because I enjoy it and the company !!!

I think you've also added well to the forum, you've brought up some interesting points, which is good, but you've also done your fair share of useless posts yourself !!!

Anyways, I don't want this to turn into an argument, cause I understand what you mean, but you are acusing the wrong people !!!

So anyways .. hahaha .. I'll stop lecturing and get back to posting !!!

Another problem, is that many of the topics have already be discussed at great lengths, so some of us get bored easily from hearing the same things over and over !!!

I for one, enjoy a good balance of on topic and off topic threads !!!

And you are right in saying there are many off-topic posts, but you are accusing the wrong people !!!

OK .. .. did I make myself clear ???

Sorry for getting upset with you, but everyone seems to be upset and/or jealous of us members with high post counts, and it's starting to get on my nerves !!!

So once again .. sorry for the explotion !!!

Not that I want to make this a big issue, but i do not just lecture. I may have been wrong about the people, but i figured that it is rather difficult to post 500+ meaningful posts

I don't see a problem here. The temp forum is skyrocketing in multiple dimensions!

Well, I agree with Saras here.

Personally, I check out these forums every couple of days just in case there is REAL news to be seen, otherwise, I usually ignore them. Unfortunately, this forum hasn't become a place to talk SMAC, but rather to talk politics.

I don't think that there should be any off topic threads because it degrades the forum and forces those that are seeking news or discussion about SMAC to seek it elsewhere, just like I do.

If it were kept to SMAC topics, more rational and intelligent people would participate and we would weed out those who are simply looking to cause argument.

Like everyone else SMAC brought me here, and when the game is released, or atleast the demo that will be the main reason I come here, but until then I like talking, but not rehashing so the game can wait (bad wording), must wait until Dec 20

I'm getting pretty annoyed at the number of "keep it on-topic!" people around here. Every one of the on-topic threads I have started quickly sinks to the bottom. If you like on-topic threads, there is one sure way to make sure they stay around and part of the discussion, and that is to post in them. I don't see what's so complicated about that. If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem (note: they're the ones who see a problem, not me).

The off-topic and semi-off-topic threads stick around because they are interesting, and people want to talk about them. Personally, I've got nothing against discussing SMAC here, but it doesn't seem to happen all too often. In the meantime, I will discuss whatever else is being discussed here, because those are interesting discussions, too.

I read these forums almost everyday. There is so much bull@%$# on them now that I don't bother posting or even reading half of the imbecilic threads. When there are some on-topic posts I will be adding my 2 cents, but I don't think this will happen until the demo is released. Hopefully the permanent forums will be back up by then and we can get down to some heavy SMACin.
BoomBoom posted 12-03-98 01:29 PM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for BoomBoom  Click Here to Email BoomBoom
Saras: You say that you want more on-topic posts. OK, fine, but why do you within about a minute of starting this thread start a thread on CapPun, which doesn't really have anything to do with SMAC either.
Saras posted 12-03-98 01:50 PM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for Saras  Click Here to Email Saras
BoomBoom: Read my post before accusing, OK?
CClark posted 12-03-98 01:50 PM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for CClark  Click Here to Email CClark
The problem is that there just isn't anything new to talk about that is SMAC related.

-We've analyzed the available screenshots to death.
-We've commented on the sotry.
-We've talked about strategies we might employ for the various factions, although it's kind of hard to do since we know next to nothing about them.

Face it, until the demo comes out, or Firaxis posts a draft of the manual or some other meaty SMAC-related thing, there won't be much on-topic discussion.

So, in the meantime, I consider this place to like a local pub. Somewhere to hang out and shoot the sh!t with some friends. If you don't want to join the conversations, that's always your perogitive.

I don't care about the off-topic threads, I enjoy reading them when they are interesting. If I want an on-topic thread, i just read the titles, and find one, but many of them start with questions about certain aspects of the game and end with a lot more questions. We can not continue these thread since, we told our opinions, and asked what we didn't understand. If you have opinions that have not been posted, post them, we'll read them and reply. I often made reply on these threads, but the discussion finished because we had expressed our opinions, and could not prove them good or wrong. So if you want on-topics thread, read the title and post in them.

Jason: I like off-topic threads. Why? because they give me something new to read every day. I see a game mechanics and multiplayer thread almost every week.

Well, I came up with a slew of SMAC topics to discuss. When I have time, I'll makes some new threads. Look for them. And if you want that type of thread around, post in them.

Sigh ... Octopus, I agree with you completely, I've started so many on topic threads that just sunk to the bottom, as it stand, 90% of the threads could technically relate in some form or another to SMAC !!!

Like do you people consider the 8th Faction threads off-topic ???
There is an excelent one going now called "Are Chironians still techically human ???"
And of course, it's just the same few people posting in there !!!

I agree this forum isn't perfect, but it's what you make it, so will you perple either participate yourselves and start your own interesting threads, or just ingone the forum !!!

I agree some of the threads are getting a little stupid and immature sometimes, but that's no where near as bad as threads actually talking about those threads !!!

Anyways, I look forward to discussing anything of interest with all of you in other threads !!!

GOOD-DAY !!!

The Civilized nature of this forum is what I like. To get an Idea of what I mean read such charge issues as CapPun, Capitial Punshiment if you've been ingore the thread. that is something I have not found in "Polictal" sites.

Word to the wise, the last "Game" site that told us to stop posting off topic no-longer exist. People just stopped posting.

Saras, are you going for the "lurker of the year" award? I hope you've enjoyed all the reading. But I hardly ever you see you posting! (Although I guess that could just be bad luck more than anything as you do have 76 posts right now, which isn't that far behind me! )

I hope everyone is enjoying those new threads. I still have a few other ideas that I'm having trouble putting into words.

Since SMAC and Civ are games that try to simulate human development through science, politics, philosophy and whatever, I'd say all the political, religious and similar threads are actually ON-topic! Ha!

I have to agree with Jason

I'll check that forum regulary to get all the important info for the zone that sound interesting. Ok, I'll do alot more reading than posting, but event then this forum is interesting.

If you want to have a smaller forum, check out the one in the Alpha Centauri Zone or on the other big AC sites.

They might be more interesting because there are fewer numbers of posts, but the up to date news can be found here.

Where not here to satisfie lurkers. Where here because we want to be here, because we like it. Not because we want to entertain some people that we don't even see.

I know I don;t post that much, but I have limited internet hours and I only post when I feel the thread will benifit from my input. But if you don't do anything anyway, then you shouldn't complain to the heavy posters. If you want the forums livened up try starting some on-the-topic thread.

I have stopped posting and I am reading less and less.

Mortis & DCA >>> Excellent points !!!

As I said before, I consider 80-90% of the threads on-topic !!!

I don't understand why you people who are complaining are complaining !!!
If you don't like a thread, just don't read it !!!

I find it very distasteful and tacky of you people who say there are not enough on-topic threads, when you don't participate in the forum !!! I mean .. c'mon .. grow up please !!!

If you don't like something the way it is, work to help improve it !!!

What real benefit wwould you get from us stopping "off"-topic threads anyways ???
NONE .. is the answer !!!

So once again, please participate in the discussions ... I guarantee that if you bring up interesting points, that the "on"-topic threads will prosper ... but until you do participate, you have no right to complain !!!

OK .. LOL ... I've said what I've had to say again .. good day !!

DJ Rebel. I wasn't complaining. Just stating a fact.
The topics are just filling in time while we wait.
The only reason I come back from time to time, is to see if there is any news.

As you can see from my post count I haven't been active at all, even though I've followed the forum for a while. I have to say that I've really enjoyed some of the "off-topic" threads like the debate of Americans ;-).

Like already said here, those threads just keeps us from counting days, hours, mins, seconds...

The threads will of course center more around the game once the demo will be released, that is 14 days = 336hrs = 20160mins =... Oh, well, maybe I should just get a life :-)

Look, I give you an example.

Take a look into the thread " Alpha Centauri :Combat".

The information found there couldn't be found in this way anywhere before.

Rang: Yes, people are enjoying your threads. I nominated you for an award for that in SMACer of the Year thread, too, I think.

Jason: There ARE some on-topic threads, and a lot of threads that straddle the line. And you won't be stricken by deadly diseases by participating in the topics that straddle the line.

CClark: I am not going for any awards - I distribute one, actually. The drinks awards somewhere dow there.

I do not post very often (which is a preception that one can get) since I mostly access the forums from my work, and I don't work on weekends
