There is quite a bit of contreversey about 60 Minutes airing the tape last week; was it a dias for debate, a snuff film, or a soapbox for Dr. Kevorkian?

60 minutes = Too american.

Therefore I don't care if they air it or not, it's all a propaganda measure for nationalism and capitalism. I don't watch american shows with a screwed political content.

On the tape that Dr. Kevorkian gave eutanasia(or whatever it is in English), to a man who was terminally sick. The same doctor had done it a thousand or so times before, but now he did it with his own hands, instead of just giving the equipment to the patient. This way he forced state to prosecute him and gained tremendous publicity to him and to his cause.

I certainly hope he gets away with it and eutanasia will be legalized. Although making it legal in one state in the USA doesn't directly help me, but it might shift attitudes. After all, it is the only reasonable thing to do when one is going to die and is in severe pain all the time. Thus seeing your loved one die slowly is not very healthy to anyone.

Go Kevorkian, Go!

It's not a question of whether or not euphansia should be legalized, it's a question of whether 60 Minutes was trying to dessiminate information or increase it's ratings during a sweep.

Both, AUH20. Either they air it for the public good and good ratings in the process, or they crassly air it for ratings and end up serving the public in the process. Tomato, Tohmato. After all, you're a capatilist, people can do things for their own good that helps everyone else, right?

I'm a supporter of euthanasia, but I think Kevorkian seriously messed up when he injected it himself instead of letting the patient do it. What if the patient got cold feet in the half a second before Kevorkian injected him? If the patient did it himself, then he wouldn't have commited suicicide. With Kevorkian we'll never know. I support helping the person die with dignity, but the person should "push the button" themselves- otehrwise it's murder.

I'm a capitalist, and I agree they should have the RIGHT to air it. This isn't a policy question, it's a morality question.

Snowfire, I agree with you. What if the man did want it done a second before. He didn't control his death, Kevorkian did. Kevorkian would have had the needle in the patient before he could have said "Stop". By then its too late, the chemicals are in the bloodstream. What Kevorkian did was wrong in my view a well.

If we're going to to discuss euphansia, I'd like to second Imran's statement. What Kevorkian did was even worse because it didn't allow the patient to control the situation.

It was just a publicity stunt. Even though a deadly publicity stunt, it was still a publicity stunt! Dr. Kevorkian was seeking popularity, & 60 minutes was seeking ratings, plain & simple.

I don't think Dr. Kevorkian should of done it. Like you said, the patient should have control over his own suicide! If he had a sudden change of heart, he had no control to stop it. Dr. Kevorkian should be put away for that, but I think assisted suicides should be legalized in the whole country.

Kevorkian's got 1st degree murder charges against him now, doesn't he?

Uh huh. All because he was stupid enough to do it himself.

Well, he did it to force the issue, was it legal or not. He wanted the big fuss to end, and he did it in a way to make his act look the best way possible.
