I was thinking about something. At the pc.ign preview of SMAC, there was a screenshot of the Planetary Council, where Santiago was kicked out of the vote for Planetary governor. Then I was thinking about one of the old SMAC previews. On one of those previews it said that in the planetary council you could, bribe, threaten, intimidate, etc, in order to get people to vote in your favor. Like me, & the great Spartans, telling Yang, of the weak HH, to vote yes on melting the icecaps, or I'd attack & destroy his pathetic faction. Well, what if Santiago was doing just that, & got caught by someone. Is it possible she got kicked out of the vote, for that?? Appreciate your comments. Your faithful & hell-bent NIMadier general, |

I AM having a mature discussion. I was merely stating that she wasn't got doing bad stuff, she merely was defeated, her bases destroyed. I just wanted to emphasize it. It said "Eliminated" not exiled. My thought was that as a Spartan, you couldn't face the defeat of your glorious Corazon Santiago. |

You know, YYYH, that makes a lot of sense. The same thing happens in the US Senate (not often enough for me, but...) so why can't it happen in the planetary council? I get the odd feeling I will be getting kicked out quite a bit, since I: A: Plan on being a Spartan B: Plan on being a violent Spartan C: Plan on employing a scorched Earth (Chiron?) policy D: Happen to like General William Tecumseh Sherman's most famous quote E: Happen to hate the Peacekeepers and plan on wiping them out, then flattening the Gaians and the Hive F: Am generally not a great liker of religion, so I plan on squishing the Believers G: Hmmm... Seems like the Morgans and the University are still around... They could be good allies, so they can stay...AS MY SLAVES! BWAHAHAHA!!!!! Oops... Mental note to self: They know too much... H: Plan on using threats against the survivors of my wrath-er, I mean, my peaceful comrades in the other factions that I have deigned to allow to survivors-ah, I meant to say, have decided to spare in return for dominance of the planet-um... The other factions that are left after my heartless bombardment of the entire planet's surface with Really Big Orbitally Launched Missles... Aw, shoot. I can't make this sound diplomatic. Guess diplomacy really IS for snakes and not warriors. Okay, this is the basic jist of this statement: ANYTHING NOT ALLIED WITH SPARTA IS A CRATER!!!! Much better, eh? H: Don't have an H. Actually, I could see the Spartans as being less of a pariah in MP games because of these boards. Because everybody knows and loves Spartans like Yo and Mike they'd be less likely to hate the faction. Speaking of which, Yo, how about a Spartan-Morgan alliance in MP games? Together? Or even better, a Pact. |

Darklight, No, not that weird. Pretty much my main strategy. Except I plan on destroying the Human Hive first & foremost. The things I hold dearest to my heart, religion & freedom, are trampled on, then spit on in that faction. I will take pride in knowing I rid Chiron of that bloody scum of a faction. I hope I don't get kicked out of a meeting too much, my influence must be known, or people will look at me, like the US looks at Iraq! |

How would she have gotten caught ??? You now talk in real-time with your own personal messages, the AI is nowhere near (like 20 years away) being able to interprate your comunications with other factions ... unless of course they only have a small set of responces like in CIV ... but I don't think so !!! You could just use your own private channel to another faction, and make your threat there !!! No chance on getting caught by the AI !!! You just have to think like a progammer to figure this one out !!! It's fairly simple actually !!! |

DJ, Please try to get everything into one post. It's just one more e-mail notification for me, or anyone else to delete. It's something newbies do to raise their post counts, I think you're above newbies. <How would she have gotten caught????> I figure getting caught would be a random event. You're playing the odds when you do it, so you have maybe a 25% chance of getting caught by possibly another member of the council, or maybe the one you're intimidating just goes out & tells on you. The point that I was trying to make, was that in theory the AI can't catch you !!! How could it catch you, you're having a real-time conversation with the other player .. there is no AI to date that can interprate your messages !!! Therefore how could the AI catch you ... even 25% of the time ??? Sorry about the frequent posting, I sometimes aswer a couple of threads, then post and then answer a few more !!! |

Well DJ, I figure it'll work not in real time conversation. But just like a variation of the diplomacy screen. You click on say Morgan at the council, & you press a button that says you will 'pay 50 energy credits to vote yes in this meeting'. Then Morgan will respond with something saying 'ok'. & you send him 50 energy credits, & he votes yes in the vote. The only downside to that, is what if Morgan were to vote No anyway, & keep your 50 energy credits. Would you get them back automatically, or would Morgan keep them & you'd have to capture some cities to get it all back? Anyway, I only put e-mail notification on a few threads. Mostly my on-topic ones. I did it to this one, & the 'What SMAC government form would you choose?' one. You think I actually put them on the off-topic ones?? No way, those get about 1000 replies before they're done! I don't care about posts either, in fact I haven't even checked my post count in a while, maybe I will when I post this I'll look at it. It just gets annoying when you have to read 2-3 messages of yours in a row, & with my email notification, that's 3 extra messages to delete! Your faithful & hell-bent NIMadier general, |

Hmmm .. YYYH, well I would think that in SMAC, the actual talking and negotiations would be done in real time, then you just click on the section for trading units/energy/cities ... and do the actual transaction there, but in the transaction phase, there would be nothing on why the agreement was made, just the hard data for the agreement !!! |

Look who returned from school! Some idiot did something in the wood room, so I get the rest of today off! Anyway, Spartans do think before actions. Acting rashly help us survive not! we must think, then act in a manner which best helps our chance for survival DJ, I figure all negotiations will be turned base. Mostly because FIRAXIS has been working pretty hard on the game, & this turn based negotiation would be a HELLUVA lot easier to implement! Dj, (again), I have voice notification when I get mail, so I'm forced to know when I get something. I don't wanna turn it off, because a lot of my friends don't have ICQ for some reason. Now that was wierd. I posted, but I sat there as it was "contacting www.alphacentauri.com" for about 3 minutes (reading e-mail from my broadcast while waiting). I wouldn't finish, so I hit the "Back" button and "WHALA!" I had posted and DJ RRebel had as well. Now this is getting REALLY creepy, my browser is running in reverse time posting mode. . . |
