I went to Futue shop in September and asked if they knew if when SMAC was coming out.
They said in 10-15 days. Bull@#$%. Those losers don't know what they're doing.
Help me boycot Future shop by buying SMAC else where.
Thank you.

Release Dates Change constantly in the game world. Often from one day to the next the release date, due to a company descition, can jump in time months forward and backward. Last year, there was info everywhere that SMAC was a September/October release.

So, I say, Don't blame your game shop for not finding info quickly. You really can never know.

Greg ... to say Future Shop sucks is the understatement of the year, their level of customer service is patheticaly dreadful ... they are also very uninformed, and the worst, if they don't know the answer to a quwstion, they guess !!! They cheat people out of their money back rebates (happened to me for $100) ... it's simple a bunch of chickens running around with no heads !!!

Geez, good thing I shop at large chains in the area for games. I don't need help in finding games, I usually find 'em before the idiots who work there ask me if I need help!

I hate big chains !!!

But they are normally cheaper, so I go there till they really p!ss me off !!!

Future shop ripped me off $100 on my cash back for my scanner !!!

So depending on the outcome of their decision, I might not ever set foot in there again !!!

Future Shop-if I were Canadian I'd help you, but sorry, I live in a warm part of my country. Long live California!

I get most of my games at Futureshop, but that's only because for some reason the computer and stereo people in the ones I frequent are actually pretty good. (I have noticed that other locations are not so well-staffed, and even other departments in the stores I visit have some really lousy people in them...)

How odd... I never got my money back rebate on my scanner either...

Though, this was buisness depot, not futureshop... same idea.

IT took them 3 months to tell me I wasn't eligible for the discount !!!

As for sales staff, I find most sales staff in most electronics stores patheticaly unknowledgable of their products !!!

Gord McLeod posted 11-28-98 05:30 PM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for Gord McLeod  Click Here to Email Gord McLeod
I suppose part of my tolerance comes from the fact that I rarely ever deal with the sales people except to say, 'No thanks, I'm just looking around right now...' and then I wander off... Since I probably know more about computers than any random 10 Future Shop people put together, I don't really need much in the way of their input...
DJ RRebel posted 11-29-98 11:04 AM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for DJ RRebel  Click Here to Email DJ RRebel
It just sickens me to see them lie to other customers just to make a sale !!!

It's a funny thing you ever even see a sales person, I sometimes had to wait over 20 miutes to be served !!! (I can recall at least 4 occations !!!)

I don't buy much other than games there, so I've never (well, rarely) had that problem. I mostly hit FS cause they have the best selection in my immediate area...

There aren't any staples that I'm aware of here in Montreal, we just have Bureau en Gros (I think would be the equiv) and they really suck big time !!! Worse than FS !!!

YYYH, you are thinking of the only one definition (derivation) of staple. Here is another - In particular 4b seems to apply.

Main Entry: 3staple
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French estaple, from Middle Dutch stapel emporium
Date: 14th century
1 : a town used as a center for the sale or exportation of commodities in bulk
2 : a place of supply : SOURCE
3 : a chief commodity or production of a place
4 a : a commodity for which the demand is constant b : something having widespread and constant use or appeal c : the sustaining or principal element :
SUBSTANCE
5 : RAW MATERIAL
6 a : textile fiber (as wool and rayon) of relatively short length that when spun and twisted forms a yarn rather than a filament b : the length of a piece of such
textile fiber

Around here in the often-maligned Toronto I'm lucky enough to have my choice:
Business Depot (english version of Bureau en Gros, DJ)
Future Shop
Electronics Boutique
Compucenter

I usually go to the Compucenter or EB out in Pickering. Even though they are chains they are usually $5 cheaper than the stores downtown. FS is a pain to get to so I usually don't bother.

Knowledge of computer products is NOT a prerequisite for working in a computer store. I managed to scare several Compucenter employees by asking them "Do you have the STB Velocity 4400 in stock? You know, the one with the RivaTNT chip?" One guy actually started to immediately walk backwards as he stammered out "Uh...I don't think so."

One thing that is kind of amusing is to watch people look at games, and then offer them advice based on reviews that I've read on-line. I saw one guy looking at Tresspasser and I asked him what kind of machine he had. Had said that it was a P233 so I said that based on several reviews I had seen, his machine wouldn't be fast enough to run it. The store clerk gave me a nasty glare, but was actually smart enough to keep his mouth shut.

DJ RRebel: What is between me and Future shop is indescriptible. Weel, not really, it is. It is their adds in Quebec that are so lame, plus it is known that you MUST NOT buy a computer there, cause itll take them 2 weeks just to send it to the person that will repair it if you have a problem. They have a

Best time I ever had in a comp store was with my best friend we made like we were interested in this VERY expensive POS by I forget who think Packard Bell, got the salesman all happy cause he is getting a fat commission and then walked out because he couldnt tell us how many LRF's it had. We almost fell down the subway stairs laughing.

YYYH did you look all over the entire store? Check for a basement or perhaps behind the counter I am sure you will find a staple somwhere.

humanitarian believes

more weird humour
sick humour (well, just a bit)
alcohol
peace

anything else ?

PS: abything is part of the great NIM. You can't comprehend it, but it helps you to build your own little space station.

Sounds like interesting, Roland, and you'll be back just in time to cheer us "Swedes", when we start our traditional 'lussefirande' by imbibing unwise amounts of 'glgg'!!!

(Interesting to see what you make of it, in light of your "Glhkindlmarkt" posts...)

Roland posted 12-03-98 08:32 AM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for Roland  Click Here to Email Roland
Glgg is glhwein, according to
http://home1.swipnet.se/~w-13897/glogg.html

But the recipe sounds more like what we call Feuerzangenbowle. Especially the flamb and the melted lumb sugar. I remember getting drunk on that stuff as well...

Lussefirande ? Hmmm.... Some event/season starting mid december... hmmm... something to do with light ? With the "Wintersonnenwende", dec 21st/22nd or so ? Ok, I quit, what is it ?

If you ever went in a Bureau en Gros for a computer game, you'll find Future Shop wonderful. Once, I went there. It was my last resort. I could not find the game I wanted, I think it was Dune 2. Evidently they didn't have it. I asked the guy about when he would have more, and about FF7 would come to the PC ( It was one week prior to FF7 PC release). He never heard of neither of the two games. How can a so-called software expert, in a shop where they sale game can not have heard about Dune 2 nor FF7. Did he lived on Mars or what.

On the slightly more maliscious side, I remember going into a Walmart and doing a low level format on one of their display models. It was still unusable a week later. Apparently, no one there knew how to partition a drive.
(IIRC, this was back in about '90 on a model with an RLL, so you could do a low level format from debug in DOS)

We have to stores like Walmart or K-Mart in Germany. They sell games for an unbeatable price. But in "Media Markt" they don't even know that game is released if they already have it on stock. I rather pay an additional 5 bucks and this way have some service.

Unsubstantiated Rumor: I seem to recall seeing on (American) TV that Walmart contracts for special versions of games which meet their on political correctness (violence, mature content, religeous content, etc.)
OTOH: Since that is the most well stocked store near my inlaws, it's worth the hour's drive there when I absolutely positively must have something computer related now.
