There have been a lot of wierd happenings on the board. I think we should collect all the data here.

We already know that rapid multiple posting (or unfortunately posting at the same time as someone else) can cause a permanent Nexus.

If a thread appears as a temporary Nexus it is because someone is posting in it at the same time as you load the thread list.

Maybe people who have seen strange things happen could describe the problem, what they did and what their browser/version and OS are to see if we can spot any patterns.

As far as I know I haven't created any double topics or Nexused anything on this board so far.

Also if people could only post in the thread of the double thread with the most posts in it that would help keep track of everything.

Terms:

Permanent Nexus: A thread who's title and first post are permanently lost.

Temporary Nexus: Initially looks exactly like a Permanent Nexus but recovers when you refresh the thread list.

Right I've just seen one. I posted in the longer thread of The Spartan Problem. My post was inserted in the middle of the shorter thread!

At this moment I am using IE 4.01 Service Pack 1 on Windows '95.

I might try with Netscape later.

Just saw this on the UBB site http://www.ultimatebb.com/news/HTML/000005.html

It says there is a version 5.10 just out which has improvements for very active sites (I think this counts with about 500 posts a day!)

I know FIRAXIS are busy and I don't really want them to spend time upgrading again with the demo so close but I thought I would let you know.

Hi, Mike!

"Also if people could only post in the thread of the double thread with the most posts in it that would help keep track of everything."

Yes, but the one with the most posts will be the one with the "youngest" last message, even if the board shows a lower number of posts for that thread. It seems to stop counting with the latest post - if this one is somewhere in the middle, the most current thread will be shown with a smaller number of posts.

BTW: It seems to be a date problem. It does not seem to happen to young threads which do cover less than one day. I think we have an expiry time for threads of one day now...

You are right I hadn't realised that problem when I posted the first message.

I asked about the doubled threads on the UBB forums and they said it sounded like a configuration problem this might explain why the searching doesn't work either.

Hmm.... any comments what will happen next ?

BTW, it seems now that date AND time do no longer work for some posts.

Don't know if it's related, or if it's just me, but I don't get any new post marks. The little "page" icon to the left of the date is ALWAYS white and I never get the little blue down arrow for "jump to the new posts". This happens both at work (NT4SP3 IE 4.0) and at home (Win98 IE4.?)

This started with the Test Forum and is still going on.
