There's a cool interview with Brian Reynolds up on www.gamespot.com now.

There's also a Word .doc of story episodes 12-24 up in the Story section, for those of you who asked for that...

fungicidal fusion formers: I don't know what it is, but I want one

AUH20: Elton John's songwriting partner, IIRC

It's not actually a weapon, it's the colonists' response to Gaian mildew attacks.

Marvellous,
THX Firaxis!!

I wanna mix my own unit. Who make the silliest unit will be fun to see.

The story in a word-file is good. Now I have some bedtime reading for near future.

Oh yes, a very good interview.

Spoe, you're right on Bernie Taupin.

I just can't help using one para from the interview:

"Adding multiplayer was definitely very important to me personally, ever since being told (in a previous life) that multiplayer wasn't a very good idea, interferes with our marketing plans, and please stop working on it, over halfway through the implementation. Incidentally, I hear the same company, now under new and infinitely better management, is now scrambling frantically to correct the mistake and "beat me to market" with a multiplayer version of said game. I wish them luck, because it's not easy!"

Absolutely hilarious! Anyone know which company that might be ? ROTFLMAO!

The unit name is great. I am looking forward to some great unit names. I am already planning a "Best unit names" thread.

31 days to D-Day (Demo Day) I am on holiday from the 23rd to the 2nd of Jan, I can see a LOT of intensive play. I've been playing the Populous: The Beginning demo to death recently (might have to get that when it comes out tomorrow) I can't imagine what I'll be like when the SMAC demo comes out.

The preview and interview have reminded me how excited I was when I first heard about this game.

Yeah, Roland, the EvilProse reference caught me too.

Another very good thing about the interview was the final part:
"There's all kinds of wild stuff you can do and still use that mechanic [Empire-style production and units, -red](to date, I've done Colonization, Civilization II, and Alpha Centauri, all very different games), and I can think of a few more directions I might go with it. Like Sid, I always try to write a game that I want to play, and this just happens to be my favorite kind of game!"

Oh joy and happiness, the future of SMAC is safe! It seems that where Sid is trying out different designs (I must admit SMG! isn't my cup of tea), Brian seem to be the real defender of the faith when it comes to serious turn-based strategy (i.e. the *ization-series).
Now, Brian, DON'T you DARE drive a bike w/o a helmet, or go scubadiving or mountainclimbing or something else dangerous, WE NEED YOU ALIVE AND KICKING (or rather designing). And I won't even go into that whole sudden religious relevation thing, YOU JUST STAY PUT AND KEEP DOING THAT VOODOO THAT YOU DO!!
