Octopus:Excellent observations. I am a HH member as well. I was writing a couple of episodes before we lost all contact. Anyway, I see optimum efficiency as the means to production....and survival. Again, and I make this point over and over on other threads, these factions have to start out on a wild, unknown, somewhat dangerous terrain to survive. The Hive just makes common sense. As a Morganite, making money as opposed to just surviving seems moot. Make money for what??? Maybe technology improvements, equipt.,,etc? Fine, now, how about economics.
There has to be a viable world economic system for a Morganite to exist. I see all factions just lucky enough to trade among themselves, at least in the beginning. Economics runs on supply and demand and on free enterprise, competition, etc. A Morganite would have to gain the superior edge in monopolizing everything, or no one would even give a damn about them. Also, for every "dollar" they make, they will need two for the expensive military.
Furthermore, I envision the Morganites being a subserviant to another stronger, military or aggressive faction in order to survive. Maybe that is how they are going to be written into the game???
For business world, what good is a business with no free enterprise? They would go broke trying to create something on an individual basis. Experimentation is vital. Mass production is keen. I don't know if anyone has read the StarTrek novel, "Federation", but in it, it talks of Cochran back in the mid 21st century in his quest to discover the warp drive. He mentions how Earth has become a world of dictators and how the the one faction uniting the Earth was called the "Optimum".
This faction strived for Optimum efficiency. That is how I see the Hive. The inducement of having to survive when they hit Cheron is good enough encouragement to stick together. Another thing, with the likes of Santiago around, I want united protection against her faction.
