This, brothers and sisters, is to be the repository for all of the knowledge we have compiled about SMAC. Whether it be through magazines, web sites, or the hallowed forums themselves, if it has been stated somewhere, I want to see it here. However, try not to duplicate TOO much of the FAQ or the story. =)

Each "topic" I will prefix with the title: "A guide to SMAC: [topic name]" for easy reference. If you feel the lack of a topic, feel free to start it. Just try and stick to the same naming conventions...

Hopefully this should be a comprehensive guide to all of the "verified" knowledge that we have. A good guide for newbies, and a good reference for the vets amongst us. Please quote all sources. Note that some information may be old, and out of date, esp from the old forums. Feel free to add any verified facts, no matter how old they may be...

Also note that I don't see this as a place to debate the merits of the knowledge. Please start a new thread if that is your wish. Otherwise, people may have to wade through hundreds of lines to discover something. =)

So, to start off the "Cities" topic:

Production
----------
Production may be queued. (from posts by Firaxis on the "old" forums, and the Gallery - New Base Window)

Production may be set to auto on four settings: Explore, Discover, Build and Conquer. These settings will set your priority for that city, and thereby define what is produced in that city. I believe that this can be set accross all cities. (from posts by Firaxis on the "old" forums, and the Gallery - New Base Window)

Cities can add their production to other cities. So, if one city is building a "Secret Project", another city's production may be added to the original. I believe that this can also be done with any production, whether it be units, improvements or secret projects. (from posts by Firaxis on the "old" forums, and the Gallery - University3)

Mining of moons, and or asteroids is possible, but no knowledge as to how. (from posts by Firaxis on the "old" forums)

Improvements
------------
Some base improvements that I have grabbed off the screen shots in the gallery:
Recycling Tanks
Perimeter Defence
Recreation Commons
Energy Banks
Network Node
Fusion Lab
Research Hospital
Hab Complex
Command Center
Naval Yard
Aerospace Complex
Bioenhancement Center
The Command Nexus
The Merchant Exchange
The Supercollider
Cloning Vats (may be a secret project)

Secret Projects
---------------
The replacement for the CIV "Wonders of the World". A super project that can be built but once per game - first faction in gets the prize. Assumptions are that these will give bonuses to either the city, or all cities. Not too many details yet, but some names:
The Cloning Vats(?) (from the Gallery - New Base Window)
The Bulk Matter Transmitter (from the Gallery shot by the same name)
The Ascetic Values (from the Gallery shot by the same name)
Paradise Garden(?) (from the Gallery shot University3)

Other Secret Projects:
Space Elevator(From beyondAC)
Unity, spacecraft or submarine(from BeyondAC)

Each faction will have distinct designs for their own bases(not cities)[from the screenshots]

Building bases underwater is possible. These serve the purpose of advanced naval bases, & are difficult to attack.(BeyondAC)

Each faction will have borders in which no other faction can build in. The borders can be pushed out by building bases closer to them.(from the official FAQ)

Another thing: How many ? A 255 limit as in CIVII ? I wouldn't want more, as despite all the auto-features, micromanagemnt may still be a pain. But 255*21 squares is about 5000 squares - which would indicate a 100x100 limit to maps, for example. Anything available about the number of bases ?

I believe I read on the old forums one time that anything with "The" in its name is a Secret Project, making "The Merchant's Exchange", "The Command Nexus", and "The Supercollider" all secret projects.

Apparently, you can police your bases and prevent riots by equiping military vehicles with policing weapons. I am not sure if this information is accurate.

DHE,
Check out the encyclopedia at BeyondAC. They say one of the "special abilities" was non-lethal weaponry. What this did was increase policing ability X2 IIRC, but it decreased defense & offense capabilities by 50%. Stupid disadvantages!!

Yeah. While military units can be used like the National Guard to quell riots, police are far more effective. But the State Police would fail miserably against Soviet tanks.
