The Hive will never be succesfull since one of the reasons for man's technological advances is individuality. This has causes many an internal conflict i admit, but war is sometimes good as well. Rapid research and all that. |

Ha! The Hive WILL be toast! Burn, Hive, burn!"Man can will nothing unless he has first understood that he must count on no one but himself; that he is alone, abandoned on earth in the midst of his infinite responsibilities, without help, with no other aim than the one he sets himself, with no other destiny than the one he forges for himself on this earth." We really need to dig up the "I hate the Morgan Conglomerate" thread in the old forums, it soon turned into "We hate the Human Hive..." as well as faction hate rallies for every other faction. But mostly you Hivesters. Gee, I wonder why?The first thing I do after landing on the planet will be to get an army and kick the stuffing out of the Hive to insure they won't bother anyone anymore. |

But the Hive stands united, while the others are easy prey. Because Yang is a security chief, the Hive's first concern is national security and defense. Thus, our borders are virtually invulnerable to your Probe teams. On the other hand, the sprawling and underprotected civilizations of the other groups--especially the supervulnerable University--yields easy prey to Hive Probe teams. Any laggardness in our research will be more than compensated when we send Probes into the University and others. We lose nothing, but stand to gain much. |

When--not if, but when--you are assimilated into Our Collective, you will be more powerful as part of a greater berbeing. Also, you will be supported by the other elements of the Collective and you will, for the first time, not be alone, without help. BoomBoom, don't you see the ultimate goal of technology? It is to achieve complete and total integration in the Collective: all of the Collective's elements will joined in one consciousness. -Firehawk Element 16859 |

uberbeing? Overbeing? Hmmmm...sounds dull. No induviduality, no insperation, monotinuos drones. Is this really what you want? A collective doesn't do anything but expand and consume. Yuk. Just like the Borg-and look how they live. |

Firehawk, you are so right! There is so much oppression and descrimination against us Hive members that it makes me sick. We are strong, we will kick any Morganites butt! That free enterprise crap has got to go! On alpha, we gotta stay together to survive.Although I would want a security job with the Hive. The drudgery work crews should shoot themselves! Viva Le Hive! Bah. That's Firaxis's fault, the Universtity SHOULD have teh absolute best defenses against spying due to their whiz kids creating the hardest to crack codes.Unity is not an absolute. It is only useful when that is what people want. Unify America and create a world power. Unify Austria-Hungary and you get factions that hate the power that is controlling it, and even better, are its citizens and thus have greater access to its vulnerable points. Unify the Hutus and the Tutsis and you get bloody genocides by whoever is in power. While the trend has been toward unity, it is not always best. Plus, when one group messes up (by falling under dictatorship, destoying the civil liberties of its people) there is always another group to take its place (witness the fall of the Roman Empire, the Holy Roman Empire, the Spanish Empire, the Ottoman Empire, the U.S.S.R...). Your system will be like one of those empires, partioned up by the conquerors due to its inability to change due to its one-mindedness. |

You misunderstand the idea behind espionage; it is not an attack, but an infiltration. The University is such an open society that infiltration would pose no difficulty. You can not think of the Hive in terms of past earth civilizations. We are truly of one mind, not yet literally, but all elements of the Hive have only the goal of advancing the Hive's greater good. >>Plus, when one group messes up (by falling under dictatorship, destoying the civil liberties of its people)<< "Falling under dictatorship"? Where is the "mess up" there? The Hive most likely would be considered a dictatorship by your standards. Yang controlls all aspects of the Hive other than those he delegates to others. It is a well-documented fact that a dictatorship is the strongest and most efficient form of goverment if the dictator is powerful and has the greater good of the governed in mind. "destoying the civil liberties of its people"? That makes no sense in the context of the Hive. There is no "its people"; the Hive is its people. -Firehawk Element 16859 |

You have two cows.Spartans: slaughter the cows and eat them to survive. UoP: dissect the cows and study them for scientific benifit. Peacekeepers: herald the cows as symbols of peace. Believers: worship the cows because they are sacred. Gaians: honor the cows as creatures of nature. Morganites: sell the cows to the highest bidder. Hiveites: milk the cows and then kill them for meat because that is the most efficient thing for the greater good of the Collective. -Firehawk Element 16859 |

Those who rail against the Hive because it lacks civil liberties are sadly deluded. Spontaneous celebrations of the Hive's efficency will not be suppressed. Praising of co-workers because they are optimally suited for their jobs will not be discouraged. Cheering of Chairman Yang for his glorious vision of the future and excellent leadership will not be forbidden."But no-one will be able to speak out against the government!" you say. One could just as easily find fault with any other faction because they disallow five-headed unicorns as pets. There will be no need of protest within the Hive. The Hive is a perfectly efficient community, in which what is good for the community and what is good for the individuals within it do not conflict, but build upon each other. Members of the Human Hive recognize that the others in their community are not their enemies, but their co-workers. Join the Hive. Be a part of the future. Or, remain "free" and hope that the Hive will have pity on you when you come begging for the crumbs that it casts away.

As for espionage, you are right by saying it is not for attack but for infiltrating. The Hive has no need for big government, large waste on litigations, independent medical care programs, etc, etc. Money will be used efficiently, probably more so than the Morganites. Politics in the Hive will be out of the hands of the commoners and only Yang needs to worry about that. Again, less to concern the average worker.Other systems will stumble on there own demised and fruitless systems! The Hive will survive!! The Hive has a unified goal(s) at all times. No time to argue the alternatives! Jeff Ceasar of the Stars |

Firehawk,The Hive's economy is going strong!! Where one person runs the economy, no arguments, difference in philosophy can destroy it!! Yang will run and produce more efficiently than any of the other factions! The Hive will have such economic strength, that all will envy Yang's production. Who cares how he treats people, its the production numbers that count! Survival is at hand in this alien world! Jeff Ceasar of the Stars |

Are they on a holy quest to destroy the Human Hive??The Hive is just as primitive as a colony of insects. Holy Pain ? That's a good one...The Army of the Holy Plan is a faction more fanatic than the believers, more militaristic than the spartans and more united than the hive. The holy plan is.. well.. maybe transcendence. Anyway, it's about destroying any competition. The name is from a chinese poem: Soldiers and workers building the dam and channel system in central china got that name, and I think it sound really cute.
