Just watched ST:Voyager ... I'm really happy it's gotten better again !!!

Thought I'd open a thread on Sci-Fi shows ...

ST:All of 'em, B5 are 2 great shows ...

Does anyone know what even happened to Space: Above and Beyond !!!

That was a good show that just seemed to disapear !!!

I thought Starship Troopers was a virtual Space:A&B episode ...
with a few extra special effects !!!

B5 and The Outer Limits are really the only good now that WCA was canceled.

Starship Troopers as a book made a while back. The author is probibly rolling in his grave right now.

I though Starship Troopers was a f...ing piece of Nazi-Fascist sympathiser bulls..t. Citizenship, sacrifical infantry, intelligence operatives in black leather - hello German army circa 1940.

I thought Space: A&B got kinda dull towards the end - the plot really stagnated. But I loved the end to the last series of Voyager - go the Protoss! Er, I mean species 2487. Ha ha.

Actually, B5 is awsome, and St was crap for a while, actually, since rodenberry died I hated ST for about 5 years or so ... but now DS9 is getting good with the whole dominion plot, and voyager is getting really great somehow out of the blue ... I didn't watch last weeks, but the week before with the 29th century borg was great, and this week's with species 2487 was awsome also .. I don't know what happened, but ST has gotten alot better in the last couple of seasons !!!

Star Trek (the original) was good the others have one actual plot about every 5th episode. B5 rules quite simply it is one of the best sci-fi ever. However in terms of classics Lost in Space is proabably the best.

hmmmn .. agreed ... B5 is awsome because it goes from season to season and not show to show ... it's more live a space soap opera !!!

That unfortunately will be its downfall .. StarTrek grew to where it is today because someone could watch just one show and understand what's going on .. you couldn't do that in B5 ... but you are right .. if you know what's going on B5 is top notch !!!

And Captain Kirk will be #1 for all time !!!

BTW .. he actually went to the same elementary school as I did !!!

"Live Long and Prosper" - Some guy with wierd ears !!!

Granted it could have been better, but I thought it wasn't that bad !!!

I was expecting them to completely ruin it and they didn't !!!

Why didn't you like it anyways ???

In line with DJ's reminder about the X-Files, there's another B5 made-for-TV movie on tonight, "River of Souls". The movies seem to be a lot more self-contained than the series, so maybe an opportunity for someone not familiar with the show to sample it?

Babylon 5 is a great show, unfortunately it will be over soon (I guess that's the price you pay for having a story with a beginning, middle, and end).

I've also been stunned about how good Voyager has been lately (it doesn't compare to B5, but I had to stop watching Voyager a few years ago because it was so bad I couldn't take it. It's actually acceptable now. Unfortunately, I've just jinxed it, so it will start sucking again any minute now).

lol .. agreed ... last season ST:V wasn't bad either ... ST's biggest problem is there blatant ability to have a really uselessly stupid show every 3 weeks !!! It gets anoying after a few years !!!

I hate star treck"Voyager". It seems like a...shall I say it?...Blashamy of true star treck. Anything with a slight resemblence to a great 'treck show died in 1994 with TNG. Damn Rick Berman!

The fifth season of B5, all the new movies, and presumable Babylon 5: Crusade (the new series) air on TNT in the US. I don't know about Canada.

BKK: Give Voyager another shot. It really has gotten better. TNG had a lot of REALLY bad episodes (e.g. "It's a Space Baby!"), so I can't really see how you can be disappointed that the quality has dropped, because it hasn't for the most part (I'm assuming your complaint is based on quality).

I can't wait for "River of Souls" tonight. And I'm saddened that B5 is ending.

And Voyager really has gotten better. Some of the best episodes are from this and last season, and I thought the one with a 29th century Borg was actually good enough to elict some kind of emotion! And this is Voyager!

Also, wasn't Rick Berman on TNG?

My god! They killed Homer!

Yes, last night on The X-Files a balding nuclear power plant operator (found asleep at the control board), by the name of Homer, was unceremoniously shredded by a voracious alien parasite.

You have to love Fox's sense of humor.

The specail effects in B5 are good but (and I know I am not the only one here who thinks so)The acting just blows. I mean talk about no POV or POC and can any of these people move more then one part of their body, walk and talk at the same time. Do any of them know what a transition is. Don't get me wrong I love Sci-Fi and I can forgive alot of acting issues but geeze these people couldn't act their way out of a paper bag. PALEASSSSSSE.

I enjoyed the Homer ref. on the X-Files as well.

Shining1: I hope you're talking about the movie when you say that about Starship Troopers. The book was different(though there were aspects you could call fascist, I suppose. If so, it was a fascist democracy).

In fact Starship trooper was a book written by Robert A. Heinlein, famous but bizarre Sci-Fi writer. The book was far better than the movie. As for Heinlein, I dont konw if he still lives, but I think he does. He was the TV commentator when Neil Armstrong firts walked on the moon.

And are there no oppinions on the final scene of the season premiere of X-Files ???

I really don't want to be the spoiller for those of you who are going to borrow it from a friend or something !!! If I have no objections over the next 24hrs, I'll post a brief summary here !!!
Octopus posted 11-11-98 12:22 PM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for Octopus  Click Here to Email Octopus
DJ RRebel: I haven't seen it yet (I watched "River of Souls" and taped the X-Files. I just haven't had the time to watch the tape yet). However, I've got no objection if you summarize it for those who want to hear it. Just give a spoiler warning and an indication before and after so that those wishing to can avert their eyes.

As for Starship Troopers, I read the book years ago (maybe ten year?) and I went into the movie expecting it to suck supremely, and never live up to the book. I was surprised by how good the movie was. Yes, there were dumb parts. Yes, it would have been cool beyond reason if they did the FX to give all the mobile infantry guys power-armor. However, I was amazed that they didn't try to sugar-coat the citizenship stuff. Maybe it just helped that they exceeded my expectations because my expectations were so low.

Spoe posted 11-11-98 05:18 PM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for Spoe  Click Here to Email Spoe
No, quite the opposite. He took the citizenship ideas and turned it into a neofascist society.

I didn't know what to make of sst, it seemed a cross betweem bad comedy and a nazi propaganda video, with aliens.
Titan posted 11-11-98 06:22 PM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for Titan  Click Here to Email Titan
Starship Trooper as a book was very good. It emphasized a lot on the trainig and the idea of citizenship. There was almost nothing on the war. The movie, I think didn't insist enough on the trainig. It didn't seem as though as when I read it. Also I think the romance part in the movie was very bad (there was a little allusion to it in the beginning of the book, about ten lines.). It took time in the movie that would have been better used to decribe the camp. I was also very deceived
that they didn't make the powered armor in special effects, since SST is a good FX movie.

Hello!

DJ RRebel, B5 is on CFCF-12 tuesdays (well, actually wednesday for your VCR) at midnight.

JB: Yup, too bad there is only 3 B5 episodes left to go... *snif* *snif* =(
But there's always The Babylon Project: Crusade that will start soon enough! =)

IMHO, Starship Troopers was 90210 with guns in space. And let me just say that I think I could have find better ways of spending $8 and an evening.

*Hugs*

I prefer Voyager. It's nice to see an SF show focussing on interpersonal interaction and how people mature over the time.

Also, they actually have good actors on the show, which is more than you can say for practically all SF shows!

Of course, I'm not including X Files in this opinion - it's a great show! They manage to keep a balance between the scary stuff, aliens, conspiracies, and comedy (Some of the comic relief episodes are really hilarious!).

Do any of you have any details on the movie ???
I saw the teaser, and it looks promising, I don't think it'll hold up to First Contact (the 2nd best, tied with undiscovered country, and behind the best: Wrath of Khan)

BTW .. the new movie is coming out in December I think, and is called insurrection !!!

Last season for DS9. Wish we got voyager, it looks like we've missed the bad years. Same with B5 (but then comming in after the end and before the end leave a wonderful sense of blissful confusion). Looking forward to this weekend's release of ST:NG. However as it is an odd numbered movie, I will be attending in ZEM (Zero Expectation Mode).
