read the idea from michaelfour, I am looking for cgi-bin work to amuse me, if he or others want to contribute spec, i can probably program it, if it has a high enough interest/work ratio ;-) I pay for a linux site at a webhoster I can use for it.

I figure the board could also handle the emailing, ie, act as a referee for matches in progress, and be the switching centre for email -- ie you email it, rather than the next player in the ring, and it lets people know of delays etc. Also keep track of the passwords and release them only with the vote of all participants, and keep stats on player response times etc, it might be cool. Maybe I am getting ahead of myself here, I do tend to start projects like this and get bored and wander off, but I like SMAC, and have this underused site lying around, it allows cron, perl, mysql and all the goodies.

well anyway, feel free to post basic spec to get me started? ie how about this:

player register:
response speed (hi/med/lo)
location in the world
player preference
games played
current availability
last used the board
other users votes on reliability?
some ladder/rating/ability system?

game register:
game master
players (taked from above)
password vault (requires majority to unlock a password)
turn/status/result or whatever

that should be more than enough to start I think?

This is a very good idea--similar to the Diplomacy servers that have been around for quite a while now. I wish I could offer some real help, but for now let me express my keen interest in seeing whatever you come up with.

Wow. Ambitious project. Don't bite off more than you can program!

Anyway, sounds like a great idea. Maybe I could give you a head start. Have a look at the ideas in this form:

This is the kind of information I'd like to know/see when signing somebody up for a PBEM game or Tournament. The layout is ugly, but the functionality is there.

Ok Thanks.. I will take a look at that site.

(Sorry jimmytrick, i will try to type more clearly from now on. When you see the finished web page, it will all make sense...)

I wont try to do everything to start with, initially, I will just do it as a player and open-game register. I can add the nice stuff if I see enough people using it.

First version of the PBEM players web page is up. Please visit..

http://an.i-dentity.com/ac.cgi

Please dont enter any data you want to see stick around, as the data format isnt stable yet.. ie, i might delete it all and start again. I have some more fields to add along the lines of those proposed by tfs99...

Please post suggestions, brickbats or bouquets to this thread?

thanks..

except for the no-logout possible, and no join game, seems pretty good.
