A repost from the old forums...
***********
I've started an AFC website so that we can continue our stories. It's at http://members.theglobe.com/Borodino
So far I have a main page; a background information index page; and compilations of the rules and background data from the start-up period.

I need to know:

1) If anyone else is interested in doing this. I know that the demo is nearly out and that we may see a reconstituted forums soon.

2) If anyone else really knows how to do a website. I wrote out the pages in Word; converted to HTML; copied; pasted into TheGlobe's pagemaker; and voila! Rather unprofessional, huh?

3) If anyone else saved their posts to disk. I have nearly all of mine. We need to compile these if possible.

4) If anyone has problems accessing the site. I know that the buttons on the main page don't appear. CLick on them anyway.

5) If anyone has suggestions, comments, etc., etc.

Thanks
**************

Any support for this? jsorense? TAS? SupremePaco (haven't seen him in a while)?

Borodino, I think we should consider starting fresh with a new Chronicle. If you look in the Test Forum at my "New Chronicle?" thread, you'll see that several people are interested in continuing the Chronicles of Pre-Unity on Planet (don't know what we'll call them yet, but people want to continue with the characters).

My opinion on continuing the AFC is that there is probably too much backstory for new people to catch up on, so nobody new would join in (I certainly wouldn't). My opinion may not matter much, though, since I was never part of the AFC.

I'd support new Chronicles, though you can "resurect" the afc if you want.

Yeah, I'd enjoy some good chronicles. But, we all have CoFH behind us, & it wouldn't be as original as we'd like. The RoFH showed this, when many of the people just used things from the CoFH, & that kinda ruined the stories. If we can keep these things maybe 75% original, I may join....

BTW, can anyone access the 'Old Test forum'?? Can anyone post in the off-topic forum??

Your faithful & hell-bent NIMadier general,

Octopus,

I understand your posistion. It's exactly the same one I held when the AFC was founded to replace the old CoFH. I wish you will in your chronicling.

One question about the CoPU -- how many chroniclers have there been? Because, the AFC never number more than three active writers and because only three factions were used with any extensiveness, backstory really is rather limited. Two pages of character background, two pages of summary, and maybe two pages of the best posts [the Beleiver communications fiasco comes to mind] would probably be enough to catch a beginner up to speed. If you think that the CoPU would be as easy to catch up on, create the necessary breifings and I will consider chronicling in them, although I really would rather continue with a revived AFC.

Regardless of each chronicler's decision as to continuing the AFC or CoPU, please do not try to enforce your choice on others. I'm not expecting you to do so, but this was tried during the first great inter-chronicle war (mostly by those who wanted a more relaxed style), and those of us who wanted less combat and more structure resisted mightily for our cause. Besides the fact that people have differing styles of writing, another factor mitigatin against any attempt at a forced merger is the fact that the BB format of this forum allows anyone to post anything. This is fundementally the good thing (some of the most interesting stories on the old boards were in independent universes; the Gaian stories (CClark?) come to mind).

Anyway, I hope that all chroniclers can come to a mutually agreeable posistion as to the nature of the various chronicles on these boards.

Yeah, I'm a tad busy to get into the AFC. I'm going to continue with the CoPUB, and hopefully it won't degenerate into badness. I think that people can easily be more than 75% original.

Borodino, the beauty of the Pre-Unity chronicles is that they end where the Firaxis story picks up, so all you'd be missing is the already existing characters (and there aren't that many) . I think that it could be pretty easily summarized. I don't think there can be more than eight active characters right now.

I don't want to force anyone into a chronicle that they don't want to be in, I just think that we should take this opportunity to consider joining together again (the last time we got a fiction forum, the chronicles split, maybe now is a time for them to come back together?).

The beauty of the chronicles is the interaction. The more people we can stir into the mix, the more fun it will be.

Perhaps the CoPU personas could be merged into the AFC?

Please list main character names, factions, and potential job desriptions.

So far, for the Hive, there is Yang (duh), Elijah Gordon (very methodical, uses traditional security and law enforcement techniques, but very effectively), and Steven Zale (psychologist extrordinaire, personal friend of Yang, currently investigating the enigmatic Alasair Lagrand (SnowFire's character) among other things). I would imagine Gordon becoming either head of Hive intelligence or internal security (maybe the same thing?) and Zale is definitely going to be in charge of the psychological aspects of the Hive, or at very least the sneakier ones.

I'll let anyone else who wants to summarize their characters do so.

Which factions weren't being run in the AFC?

PKs and Beleivers were used extensively throughout the life of the old AFC. I wrote the PK side (based off TAS's and PeaceEnforcer's beginnings). jsorense wrote the Beleiver side (with Brenda in the beginning.)

UoP had several spans of usage under the DG, then under SupremePaco.

Hive had two stories. One from TAS was a single post dealing with a Hive security man. The other, by me, was a thread of posts written about a French construction worker, Paul-Henri D'Avignon. The thread's theme was a la Orwell's 1984, Rand's Anthem and any number of dystopian novels, something you would no doubt disapprove of.

Gaia had a single post, by me, about a geneticist; the story went nowhere. (TSWN)

Morgan had a few sporadic posts in the beginning. TSWN.

Sparta had no posts.

Borodino: Actually, I remember Thomas's story now, and I definitely don't want to be tied to it (I want to write for the Hive, since I think it's the most interesting society, and has a lot of room for interesting fiction). Your description of your post makes it seem unpleasant to me as well. I don't think I would want to continue the Hive unless the proper tone could be set for the society (basically, mix my pro-Hive posts with how things "actually" are in the society -- e.g. some good, some bad, questionable methods used to achieve good results, etc.).

Octopus:

Something I did really think about when I mentioned about my Hive posts: Paul-Henri D'Avignon is decidedly mentally unstable. He exhibits a good deal of what could be classified as psychological disorders, provided that a more "mainstream" Hivester wrote of the society in a different light: paranoia, delusions of grandeur, general erraticness. His is convinced that the whole apparatus of the Hive is designed to work against him, and that he alone can outwit it.

Sorry about not mentioning it earlier, but its been some weeks since I've even thought about him. I'll try to compile those episodes for you. There weren't too many of them. As I said, a lot of what I've said about the Hive in them could probably written off as an insane man's delusions. It would actually make the D'Avignon's story all the more interesting to me.

Hmm, don't you think with the demo coming out tomarrow, this thread is futile. I mean who'd have the time to post? I know I wouldn't!

Imran: I can't play even a really great game 24x7, and the demo IS going to be crippled (and to top it off, I don't get to play it until I get back home to my regular computer after the holidays). The Chronicles are a unique creative outlet, and I rarely get to do anything purely creative. I find it a very relaxing and enjoyable thing in and of itself. As long as everybody else keeps doing it, I think I will as well, even when I have the real game.
