First, you greatest advantage is NUMBERS!
If your first colony builds ONE other colony then sets to Discover&Build it usually takes out all the secret projects before the others even get off to a start! If you have the second colony set to build others, your on your way! Simple as that! Overwhelm the opposition and climb the tech tree by going DEMO/GREEN/CYBER as soon as there available!

Demo/Green/Cyber is what I usually shoot for. I like the spread arpund the Project a like more. I usually have a couple project mass-producers and have other cities pick up 1 or 2.

Wow, I play totally different as PK.

First, I never use Govenors. They tend to just get drunk and then do something stupid.

First, I get Democracy/Planned. It gives me +4 Growth with extra Talents. With a Golden Age I can get an automatic Pop-Boom.

After that, Human Genome Project all the way. Then I head for Empath Guild and get myself in as Govenor. After that I just go with whatever is happening.

Of course, I'm not known for being very pro-green and other such peaceful pursuits. Drill them boreholes, mwahaha!

Yes i play them quite differently too. I'll usually use the demo/planned combo to spurt growth during the midgame. But then usually switch back to either simple or fundamentalist politics. Then go green economy and power values. I use force to keep the peace.
