All this bs about rping is just completely uncalled for. If you want to rp go play dungeons and dragons or some lame mud. Don't clutter up a strategy forum with your stupid nonsense. None of it is really related to alpha centauri in any way at all, its just your contrived world injected with alpha centauri terms. Take it to your own site.

Now, Atombomb, you know I hate to disagree with you, but the chances of all the rper's being gay is very small statistically speaking. The last figure I heard was that one in thirteen people are "born gay", with perhaps a small percentage of "straight" persons choosing to practice a queer lifestyle. This of course is an either / or dichotomy, which is not in keeping with current queer / straight continuum theories where there is a 0-6 scale upon which all people fit, so that most people are inherently partially queer and mostly straight, regardless of how they have been socialized to express their interactions.

Besides that, I do agree with you contention that the rpers do not really belong here, and that they are pushing off other valid topics with their dialogues. However, they state that they don't really belong anywhere else on this site, and so they are staying here. We can't make them leave, and they don't feel like leaving, so we are pretty much wasting space bitching about it. So we should probably stop doing so.
If you are annoyed by their presence here, why don't you ask the Webmaster to give them a forum all their own? There are certainly enough of them to make their whole own forum... and everyone is happy.

Ghost: Why do you talk to a moron like NukedBrains here? If you must criticize out-of-place posting, criticize the _entire_ "Game" forum. It's a breeding ground for off-topic, moronic posts.
NukedBrains: Again, take it to the "Game" forum. Someone like you might like to think the name is shortened from "Gay Men".

I talk to Atombomb because he (I assume Atombomb is a he... the nickname is a masculine one) is good at arguing with me, and I enjoy debate; we have been arguing back and forth for a while, and I have developed a respect for his style, insight, and knowledge. I don't agree with his use of the term gay = bad, and because I value him as a debate partner I felt like chiding him, in hopes of maybe changing the way he felt about using certain terms. On the other hand, pretty much everyone on that other Alphasex post was guilty of conflating gay with bad, and in quite explicit terms, to boot, so don't go thinking that just because I criticized Atombomb I don't mean the same criticisms to apply to you all. Personally, I think using the term "gay" to mean "lame" or "bad" makes you look like a "hick"... which I suppose is a term I shouldn't be using either but we need to start developing a derogatory language somewhere. I doubt many people who identify themselves as "hicks" will be here, so I feel okay about using that term. However, it is quite possible that gay males (or less likely, lesbian women... women tend to play less computer games, regardless of sexuality) might come in here and be offended by that term (as well as liberals of either gender and sexual orientation). As per the responses to KorNMaN (or whatever), using proper english (although who can catch every sp?)is a general indication of intelligence in a medium which is gender, color, race, and age blind (not that there aren't lots of sloppy geniuses out there); and there are certain terms and writing patterns which are generally indicative of sloppy mental categorization, narrowmindedness and reactionary character... all of which I consider = bad.

I know what you all are asking yourselves... is Ghost gay? Or (gasp) maybe a lesbian (the fantasy of many an adolescent male)? I'm not telling, because either way it would weaken my argument. If I say I'm not, then it would be like saying even though I think it's okay to be queer, I want to make sure that no body thinks I am, while if I say I am, then people might think that I am only defending the rights of queer persons because I am queer. Whatever and whoever I may be, I assure my sexual preferences are not contagious over the internet. If I am a "straight" man, or a lesbian, and like women, then other women reading my posts are not likely to become lesbians, nor will gay men become "straight"; likewise for my possible "male identified" roles.

So, in answer to your short and sweet question (which in all fairness was prbably just another way to get a dig in at Atombomb), that is "why I talk to a moron like Atombomb." Some of those reasons also apply to why I bother writing a long response to a moron like you... because I think everyone deserves a fair shake, and some people who act spitefully do so out of frustration or because they don't know any better.

Allo. I am an occasional poster to the RP threads. I am not gay.

However, I seem to notice a trend: the more often someone uses the term "gay" is almost always inversely proportional to the amount of security and confidence they have in their own sexuality. It is almost as if by saying that someone else is gay, they are affirming the fact that they are not.

Also, the usage of the term "gay" in a derogatory manner is completely uncalled for, and extrememly homophobic. It is unnecessary in a forum where sexuality and orientation is rarely discussed, and with most posters not having any sort of knowledge about another poster aside from what is written.

Please, if you're going to insult the RPers, don't call them gay. Use a different insult, perhaps like: Stupid, Imbecile, Nekulturny, etc.

Actually when i added gay into that it was only in the header, meaning that i meant that rping is gay, and yes gay=lame in this sense. It is a dual meaning word, grown out of slang. The slang usage means lame, like ghost pointed out, the normal usage is obvious. So when I use gay on this post I was referring to the slang terminology. The other topic was just having a little fun to see what kind of lame responses I would get (it tells me what kind of ppl are really rping if they actually bother to respond in a derogotory fasion).

Atombomb --
Of course, I know it is meant in the "lame" sense, but gay is a sexuality description, not a tool of qualitative analysis. If you mean "stupid", say "stupid"... or any of the many possible synonyms. Using the word gay in a derogatory fashion is not an "innocent" choice -- any more than racist invective (I am sure we can all think of a few choice words we have heard for racial minorities) is innocent.

I value your presence on the forum, but you have to understand that this forum, and for the most part this internet, is a world of words; and in the "real world," the way we think about the world is of necessity influenced by the words we choose and the meanings we ascribe to them. The words you use matter; you teach other people what is acceptable discourse by the terms you use, and you are taught so in turn by others. I doubt you have chosen to make queer rights one of your political goals (I have, along with environmental and educational reform); nor am I egotistical enough to think that I can change your feelings about queer culture right here and now with a few (or many ) well chosen words... but I want you to realize what you are saying when you say it, so you have the choice to say what you mean.
Think about it, bud.
