High Priest has graciously maintained the "Who is your favorite faction" thread, so I thought it might be fun to see which factions everyone likes to crush/stomp/maim/pound and generally wipe out. We'll use the same 3-2-1 point system, i.e., 3 points to the faction you most want to crush, 2 points for the next most, and 1 point for number 3 on your list. You can even describe why you like to wipe them out.

Number 1 on my list is the Spartans; a good faction to play, but a hard faction to get along with. Santiago has extorted 4000 credits off of me when I only had 137 credits. I nearly always have to give her credits and research at the beginning of a game. I seldom seem to get a treaty or
pact to last very long with them. The last time I did, I broke the pact and hunted them all down and wiped them out just to remedy any "future difficulties" they might pose.

Number 2 on my list is the Believers. Again, this is a fun faction to play, but a hard one to get along with (but not as hard as the Spartans). I can usually beat Miriam into submission more easily than Santiago.

Number 3 on my list is Morgan. Usually, I can get along with them to start out, but I almost invariably go "Green" on my economy and this invariably hacks off Morgan. The good news is that I can usually beat him into a submissive pact brother without much difficulty.

So, that makes the opening scores:

Spartans - 3
Believers - 2
Morgan - 1
UofP - 0
Gaians - 0
PeaceKeepers - 0
Hive - 0

Now, if we can get someone to start a thread on which faction is the easiest to get along with, I think we'll have all bases covered.

Polls, polls, polls. Here we go.
Believers for obvious reasons. I'm never in fundy and never get along with her. I can rarely even get a peace treaty at the beginning of the game with that bitch.

Morgan: for some reason they are the ony faction to use pb's on me. I always leave the charter in place. I rarely get along with him even in FME.

Spartan: they always give me trouble. I'm rarely in Power because of the industry hit. I'm only in after I build the cloning vats when I'm in a tough war.

totals:
Believers: 5
Spartans: 4
Morgan: 3
UOP: 0
Hive: 0
Peace: 0
Gaians: 0

#1 here--the University! having the research kings as your submissive Pact Bee-yatch makes for some quick tech gains. I always tend to get the most out of them that way.

#2--the Hive. They're usually my strongest competitor, so I like to grab anything I can from them.

#3--the Spartans. I hate hate hate hate hate them. There's no getting along with them. If you don't like Power, they attack you. If you do like Power, they think you're a rival and attack you. With such great Diplomacy on their side, how can you NOT want to crush them?

Honorable mention--the Gaians. "Lady Dierdre is in your chambers awaiting your personal interrogation..."

Believers 5
Spartans 5
Morgan 3
Univ. 3
Hive 2
Peace 0
Gaians 0

Here are my votes!
The Believers-When I first got the game I started games just to crush them. At the start, I gent into a pact and suck Miriam dry. But don't underestimate the Believers. One game they were playing with a huge army, w/needlejets, missiles. Believers-3

Gaians-When I'm beating them up, I like to hear Dedire whimper and beg. They are the puniest faction in the game. Gaians-2

Peacekeepers-What a horrible faction! When Lal got elected I crushed the PK's. But the self-humane Brother Lal whimpers when he is almost destroyed. PK's-1

Believers-8
Spartans-5
Morgan-3
UoP-3
Hive-2
Gaians-2

Schoop, your reason for putting the UoP on the list doesn't really fit. The poll was about who you want to *crush*. Forming a submissive pact with them isn't exactly "crushing" them.

Hmz..

And here are the points from the norwegian jury:

3: Hive... Don't ever EVER let them grow big. If they can't take your colonies by force, they start PB'ing. They are my #1 reason to play Hive DIE COMMIE! DIE!

2: Gaians... Noone else can annoy me as much as the gaians do ... Usually, killing off transport ships is easy.. but when they start coming with Isle of the Deep's... They cannot be killed so easy... and what is inside those Isle of the Deep's? Mind Worms... Seems like Gaians don't like my Police State/Free Market/Wealth. DIE TREE-CRAZY DEIDRE!

1: Morgans... "The SP stealers". Love getting free SP's while overruning him with 'Copters and 5-5-1*2 units... He also seems allergic to Locusts of Chiron . DIE YOU CAPITALISTIC MORON!

Hmz, seems like the guy in front of me didn't add on his scores..

Believers-9
Gaians-7
Hive-7
Spartans-5
Morgan-4
UoP-3
PK's-1

I feel so happy to get the Gaians far up there...

Honorable mention:
UoP -> Tekno Phreak. If he EVER EVER get's big enough to start a successful war against you .. .look out .. Really annoying fighting against 12-5-2*3 rovers, when you have 8-3-1*2 yourself... ARraraRGh

Hive-10

And why I left out the Believers: usually their over-whelming number of supported units makes their stranded in the end.

As I play the Spartans(love the free protos) and the University(love the research). Here are my votes...

Door #1: Believers - Never did like her pushing her "bible-thumping ways" upon me.

Door #2: Gaians - "Dancing naked in the trees?!" A bit too disturbing for me.

Door #3: Hive - "There can be only one..." superpower and by golly that one WILL be the Spartans!

So here's the update:

Believers-12
Hive-11
Gaians-11
Spartans-5
Morgan-4
UoP-3
PK's-2

I'd have like to put the PK's, but their constant whining about being behind in tech and energy is tolerable...to a point.

#1 Peacekeepers -Sanctimonious hypocrites-always picking on my peaceful and happy Police State Spartans. Always pick a fight they can't win, but Never surrender to me-bullies and dumb to boot.

#2 Hive Insect-like Communist menace. Enough said.

#3 Gaians Actually fairly friendly-until I go free market. How come the enviro-types I've met never look anything remotely like Deidre?

What is with those Peacekeepers? You can never trust them. Even when they are submissively pacted to you, they will often try and probe you anyway. They seem way more erratic than Zac, breaking friendships and pacts at whim.

A distant second for me is Miriam, followed by Morgan.

#1: Miriam needs to stay on top of this list where she belongs, that technophobic bitch is like a female Ralph Reed with access to weapons.

#2: I think Santiago must have Planet's biggest coke habit, what with all the money she tries to extort. Only slightly less dangerous than Miriam.

#3: Lal can be a real pain if he doesn't take a shine to you...too bad I like police state...

This one is kinda easy. The Hive (always say the HIDEOUS Hive) is #1 on my list because they're just repulsive. The Believers are second for being so intransigent, and seem to be major pests in every game I play. Third for me is a less obvious pick, but Spartans probably get the nod, just barely, over the Gaians. I've played the other three factions, so I'm not as anxious to vanquish them!

2. The Hive( if you meet them early, they're annoying, if you meet them late, they're a threat to you)
3. The Spartans - I only choose Power as the Believers, which I don't play a lot.

So that makes:

Hive: 25

You're close on Santiago, but not quite correct. It's not a coke habit, its clearly steroids. Santiago has the worst case of testosterone poisoning I think I've ever seen.

Dangit, why do people always assume that I'm female? I don't see anything feminine about my nickname...

Just noticed that Hunterseeker forgot to add the point for the Spartans in his vote. Correct scores are:

Hive: 25
Believers: 24
Gaians: 14
PK: 13
Spartans: 12
Morgans: 6
UoP: 3

I always seem to be the one to find the addition errors in these votes.

As a general rule, I just attack whoever pisses me off first, or whoever has something I want (ie. large bases, secret projects)...

But as far as the satisfaction level goes:

1. Believers - They never have tech to trade, they're pretty worthless as a combat ally (since they're ALWAYS fielding outdated weapons), and they generally declare Vandetta on me as soon as I meet them -- no matter what faction/SE I'm playing. On top of all this, you have Miriam the Self-Righteous beeotch. Fortunately, they're usually so weak that I can talk one of my allies into wiping them out while I expand.

2. Spartans - On the lower levels I can out-army them, and on higher levels Santiago tends to declare Vandetta on everyone, so I'm never in much trouble unless I start next to her. I usually choose Wealth in SE, so it's me or her. =)

3. Hmm... The Morganites are probably the next most annoying, but I've been playing them lately -- and Chairman Yang has been a major thorn in my ass. I'll have to give the nod to the Hive here, with an honorable mention to Morgan for taking the art of backstabbing to a whole new level.

Current tally:
Believers: 27
Hive: 26
Gaians: 14
Peacekeepers: 13
Spartans: 13
Morgans: 6
University: 3 (why would anyone but the Believers wipe out the Tech Fairy?)

3 points for the Believers!! They are worthless as friends, nearly worthless as submissive pact sisters. Even if you go Fundy (the worst SE option, except during major probe action) they hate you.

2 for the Hive. Somehow, they always beat me to Doctrine Airpower, even with -2 economy. When I play Hive, my research stinks. What's up with that?

1 for Santiago. When she offers you a pact in return for a vendetta, she usually keeps it for a while. Definitely not the worst.

PKs must die, cause they're slimy worms. They're supposed to be trying to keep the peace, but nothing I ever do makes them happy.

Spartans are a joke. I laugh at them and they never make it through the first quarter of the game. They piss everybody off, then everyone gangs up on them. Heck. Santiago often gets defeated before I even encounter her.

Believers are bad, but they're so predictable I don't really mind them.

Hive give me a really good fight, but I lways respect Yang as an enemy. I've even been a little bit sad to see him go once I've beaten him.

I hate getting on the wrong side of the University (mainly because that's the faction I play as most often). Once, playing as the Hive, I attacked the UofP. Oops! They had probe teams (I haven't neglected to build probe teams since) and they stole five or so units before I crushed them. I think you should get all of the remaining units of an enemy faction when you kill it, don't you?

Why in the world would anyone want to wipe out the beautiful Deidre? I think there is something really wrong with those of you who do. Back to the topic being discussed here:

By far...number 1 spot goes to Sister Miriam who should have been named Sinister Miriam, lacks long range planning ability. You can get by her during the begining of the game if you keep ahead of her faction. Bottom line "religious ignorance is very dangerous". I wipe 'em out as soon as I can.

No. 2 spot is awarded to the Morganites. If your faction is not ahead of them during the middle of the game, the Morganites will completely wipe you out at the end "after 2500" Specially if its a neighboring faction.

No 3. The Spartans of course. Like, they just want to take over right away... right...
NOT!!!

Whats the deal with University? its always good to have them on your side but they are so defenseless during the begining of the game... its annoying. they usually end up scattered in the middle of the ocean with 2 or 3 bases.

So the number go:

Believers - 42
Hive - 31
Sfartans - 22
PK - 16
Deidre - 15
Morgan - 9
Prokov - 3

We'll see with AX later...
