As the name of the post states, one of my greatest joys in SMAC is when I have several factions that have to surrendered to me and I play Puppetmaster. I'll order them to attack someone that I'm currently at peace with and then demand whatever they take, or pit them against each other.Of course, i routinely fleece my flock of whatever energy they care to give me under threats of cancelling the Pact. It's fun to manipulate them, especially if you want to stop them from getting too powerful and throwing off the yoke of your dominion. Anybody else like to do this?

It can be fun. In one of my games as the Gaians, after I had forced the Believers, Hive and Spartans to surrender, I was number one with the Peacekeepers as a close second; the PKs was also right next to me as well. So I have the Believers, Hive and Spartans at constant war with the PKs to keep them at number two. However, instead of fleecing my submissive pact brothers for everything they had, I periodically gave them gifts of tech and money to help them out. |

surrendered factions don't always do what you tell them to: i had this one game where 4 factions surrendered to me and i can't stop them from warring with each other! since i was in between some of them, they would travel through my terriotory to attack one another and periodically conduct battles inside my territory too! |

Yeah, in the game I just finished the Spartans had PB'd me before they surrendered and so for the rest of the game all the factions were at war with them, and I couldn't stop my other three surrendered fcations from doing it. (It was odd. They would plead with me to help them or stop the war with the SPartans, but when I asked them to stop they said "Never! Colonel Snatiago and her diabolical followers must be crushed!" or something like that) |
