Hi, I was wondering. Can you decide if you want a ODP to attack, or ???
I have just played a game where Yang constantly shot down my ODP's. Can I couter attack ???

It should say " COUNTER ATTACK " sorry

I believe it is F6 that takes you to the screen where you can attack other players satellites using your ODPs. Its fairly simple to figure out once there.

Just to confirm I'm getting this correct. Yang shot down the ODPs with his own ODPs or were you trying to shoot down incoming PBs and exhausted them?

Also was this MP or against the AI - I have never seen the computer build a ODP let alone attack any of mine.

I have not heard being able to 'shoot down' orbital defense pods. You loose an orbital defense pod every time one of them stops a PB, but I thought that was the only yoou loose them (except the event that destroys all orbital stuff).

ANyone know for sure. I have just rushed 5 orbital defense pods right before Santiago and Deidre have completed their PBs. I am at war with both and I am worried.

I was going to start a new thread, but this one looks good.

Anyone know what planet penalty you get for using Planet Busters?

Anyone heard of the computer using PBs while the UN charter is in place?

I used my first PB last night and than reinstated the UN charter. This has been the highest tech (for the computer factions) I have ever played.

Yes, given sufficient reason the AI will use PBs when the charter is in effect. Yang uses them at will if you have a single base with many secret projects and you're at Vendetta (one more reason to develop SP's in many areas of your empire).

Also, I was playing a game in which the PKs and Believers were at war, and Miriam used a PB on one of Lal's SP's. Lal retaliated with 2 PB strikes against Miriam. However, as I was playing Morgan and had no treaties with either, this only made me happy.

I have also seen Yang attack my ODPs, but since I make it a point to have twice as many as everyone else combined, I didn't really care.

Sounds like when PBs and orbital defense pods start being made there is good reason to make a major push at destroying the other big factions. The problem is that at this point most of the AI factions have ganged up against you.

It's best to try to keep them down in tech. Usually if they are involved in drawn out wars they will never build any orbital facilities. I have only seen dierdre build a couple of sky hydroponic labs that it. Sometimes small skirmishes are nice where you can support the war with 2 or 3 cities, but the ai devotes their entire empire to building combat units.

I myself have come across the AI use PB's with the charter still on. Lal use his PB to take out my Hunter-seeker and weather paradigm; which was near my Capital base that had just about everything else in it.
I lost 4 base in that one attack, but he lost all his bases on my next turn as well as everyone else. I had build 47 PBS and place them in bases that made it easy to strike.
I tell you there is nothing like Nuking the whole lot of them in one fast strike.
When I was done there was large land mass and a whole lot of small squares of land.

hahax:

Yang uses PBs at will, period

In the game where I played Morgan, I had UoP, Believers and Spartans in submissive pacts, and Yang in a regular pact. I had managed to make everyone make peace with everyone else, so that they could build their cities to my benefit. As part of my grand plan I also handed some bases over so that the commerce would increase in my big cities (+30 commerce is better than 7 pop).

I handed a size 7 sea base to Yang, who had been seething at the Spartans since forever, though refused to go to war for less than 4000 energy credits. Then, as soon as his Fusin PB is finished, he launched it against one of the Spartan sea bases, and got everyone at his throat for doing it. Well, so much for peace. That Spartan base wasn't special in any way, just an ordinary size 7 base with minimum improvements if any. I guess Yang just felt that he had to use that PB on someone, and the Spartans happened to be closest at hand

This might also be a bug in the v1 scenario editor, but when I tried PBs on my own faction, both my ODPs reacted to the PB and first intercepted it and then deployed. I don't remember if it took one or two more PBs to destroy the deployed ODPs, but I remember thinking that it was all wrong, and that one of the numbers in the satellite survey went down do -2. Maybe it's just in the scenario editor and/or v1? In any case, one ODP should definitely stop one PB, either through interception or sacrifice, right?

Just to get things back on track.

I was playing Gaian and against the AI. Late in the Game, every turn or so, i got several messages that Yang have shot down a Defense Pod. It was not destroyed by a PB.

HMFIC : Maybee I'm stupid (NOT) ;-), but i cant figure it out, do i have to have more ODP's than my opponent's ??

When it is your turn, and assuming you have any ODP's, you simply hit F6, that takes you to a satellite view. From there you should be able to figure it out. I think there is a button for Orbital Attack View...you select which opponent you want to attack, which type of satellite you want to target (Nexus Mining, ODP, or the energy one), hit attack and voila, you either destroy it, or you miss, but it uses up one of your ODP's regardless.

Never knew that existed. I destroyed a Gaian Hydroponics pod last night. Sort of fun.
