For more on this check topics in "the game" - I just posted here since it seems to be a different group of ppl

There are 4 advantages to the contest as compared to a regular game.
1) you skip the first 200 years or so
2) start in a fighting situation
3) games have a set goal and dont drag on
4) finally - you can compete against others to get a better score

I consider those four advantages to be disadvantages, although I can understand why others might like them. Personally I think CivI&II and SMAC is about experiencing the life of a nation. I thought the idea of the Jules Verne scenario in Fantastic Worlds (CivII) was cool, but I only moved a few units before realising that it was no fun whatsoever to play someone elses nation. I had no feeling about the past history of the nation I played, and I couldn't keep track of my cities, since I had not been the one to build them. Ah well, just wanted to share these special thoughts with you Beat the excrement out of your rivals' scores =)

RGE:

Perhaps we can take it from the viewpoint that we are thrown into a situation momentarily and got to act real fast, and possibly what's left - of the mess.

Cheers
