The Hive have an industry bonus, an immunity to negative efficiency, and a free perimeter defence per base. They're an aggressive expansionist builder faction. So, build lots of bases, and lots of units, and attempt to cover the globe, by hostile acquisition as necessary. The Hive cannot use Democracy, so population booms are harder for them, but you don't have to have big cities, you just want many cities. Like Morgan, spread far and wide, only instead of buying things (because the Hive is not rich), use your industrial might to build them.
Much of the time you'll be in Police State and Planned Economy, so Support and Police won't be the huge concern it is for UoP for example. Therefore build lots of formers and troops, make lots of supply crawlers/rovers/foils to exploit the world's resources, and grow ever outward.
Eclipse everyone else by your sheer bulk, and do it from the very beginning, when your advantages are most significant.
In the late game, the Gaians find themselves in a position to do the same, and can grow exponentially, taking everyone by surprise. But they have to survive long enough.
Whereas the Hive have good early game survivability, and must make enough hay while the sun shines to fuel their future growth which will eventually be at other people's expense.
The Hive, like the Believers and Spartans, can afford to be relentlessly aggressive, so don't let the four more tech oriented factions get way ahead, as they will by 2250 if you slack off.
