I have noticed several times that when you place a few of your needlejets on full automatic, they seem to be able to determine whether or not an anemy base is strongly defended or not. They will jump all over a poorly defended base, but never seem to "kamikaze" a strongly defended one. I take advantage of this by leaving a few jets on auto, and having a few drop troops around, to "drop in", when the auto-jets find a weak spot. I guess this qualifies as a minor cheat.

I don't think that would be a cheat. If you have datalinks infiltrated you can see where their weak bases are anyway. I was thinking about putting my whole military on full auto just to see what happens. It might be good for a laugh. Has anyone tried putting missles on full auto combined with full auto drop infantry units with orbital insertion? |

I only consider it a cheat in the sense that you are using the AI against itself, exploiting a weakness in an AI that is already at a great disadvantage over the (hopefully) smarter human player. Its not an out and out cheat like saving and reloading every few turns. Just a little tiny one. And I often put the military on automatic when I am not in the mood to deal with a minor border clash myself. The needlejets and navy seem to do the best job on auto, the ground forces are pretty useless this way. I love it when an enemy attacks a former and a defensive unit suddenly appears to protect it! |
