We all know which factions is the best to play for our playing style. Which faction is the worst for you. Like worst transcend year or just plain get your butt kicked with. The believers for me. I never build enough probes and don't bother sending cruiser probes all the way accross the world. I would rather just boost my research rate. I'm more a builder than conquerer anyway

I would have to agree with you. I've never really enjoyed playing that Holy Bitch Miriam. I've never gotten enough troops out or probes out to really make her effective. And towards the end of the game, if I haven't taken over enough of the world, the army management drives me crazy. I have been able to play okay with her, but never well enough to win any of the "fastest best" awards in the Hall of Fame. Plus, I HATE playing against her.

I don't think there are truly any bad factions in this game, despite my past feelings on the matter. But in single player games, the Spartans have the least going for them, and seem to be the worst faction in that respect.

I think the Believers are better than them with that +25% bonus to attack, which turns out to be better than the Spartan morale bonus. Also, having a +2 support is an amazing boost in the early game. Fortunately for Corazon, she's a lot better looking than Miriam or nobody would use her.

of course there are never any truelly worse factions to play. It's all opinionated. It's amazing how people argue over what the best faction is. I'm just trying to get a general consensus. It seems nobody plays the believers or spartans very much except for a few loyal smacers.

The number one worst faction I have big problems to play is that Capitalistic Swine Morgan. I've tried to play him a couple of times now. They grow to slow, have a horrible support etc etc...

I suppose the amount of 'randomness' that was given to your game's settings might have a significant impact on the outcome, as such it's really difficult to say which is the worst.

Like for me, the fastest conquest victory was achieved with the Spartans. And that's with lot of luck - the UoP and PK surrendering early on and the Gaians joining them slightly later.

Hey! Morgan is great faction! It's definitely not a place for him here.
I was always playing Gaians, and this terrible factions ratings where green graph was at least three times higher than any other (at least after 2200-2250 th) made me too bored of it. So, I tries Morgan. Don't say that he is hard -- first time I played him I won, and I could finish game by different victories -- any of four. But that was harder. And, thus, more fun.

So, the morale: you may play almost any faction to win, because AI is too stupid.
I am thinking about making custom faction that has -1 for all ratings. Maybe it'll be better...

Just noticed -- to those who says that the Believers are the worst faction to play -- see the "Your favourite nemesis, on your condition" thread about the worst enemy. See who's the leader?
So, if computer plays it better than any other faction, why humans don't?

Rather bizarely I agree that the Spartans are one of the least attractive factions to play. The thing is I play almost exclusively as the Spartans. Its because their lack of any clear specialisation allows you to do almost anything you want with them. So I think they are the worst.... and the best.....

Beta1
is rather confused

Morgan usually isn't a challenge to play. I like playing him because it's a more interesting game with him. But once I had a horrible starting position in all arid land. And there were 4 factions ahead of me in technology. Rare for morgan. So a lot depends on your starting position. Believers can be played much better with a human than ai. It just doesn't suit my playing style to build lots of probes.

Believers stink! The problems with research makes it impossible to do anything with them, unless you have a tiny map and are crowded right next to your opponents.

Of the 5 I've played so far (the Hive and the Morgans being the two I haven't), my least favorite to play, as in I will not do it again, would be the PK. I can't bring myself to play either Microsoft or the Klackons yet, but I will eventually for completeness' sake.

BTW, I like playing the Believers. I'm thinking of making a slightly different faction and calling it the Celestial Chorus.

Eris (I have Mage correspondences for most of the factions, actually).

Eris, with a name like that, I expected you to have Illuminati correspondences for the factions. Let's see...

Bavarian Illuminati--Hive
Discordians--Gaians
The Network--University
Shangri-La--Peacekeepers
Gnomes of Zurich--Morgan
Society of Assassins--Spartans (a stretch)
Servants of Cthulhu--Believers (Hehehehehe)

My faction playing history is, broadly:

UoP -> Gaians -> PK -> Hive -> Spartans -> Morgan -> Believers.

They're all easy wins at Thinker.

But the most *boring* were the Spartans, who never seem to have any money, and consequently take ages to do anything with!

Morgan was so different, he was great fun! I built zillions of cities, hemmed the UoP in, made Zakharov serve me, and eventually settled on a Conqueror Morgan strategy - buy a big high-tech army, choose anything except Free Market, and attack!

The Believers were great! Shilly-shallied around (to borrow Maddie Albright's term), and still won on a medium map in 150 turns.

Using Probes to destroy _randomly_, the Perimeter is down in one, at most two, attempts. Then my army marches in.

At Librarian level (my most recent game and first with Miriam) with base-tech-capture-on, using a constant expansionist strategy and liberal tech trades, and despite setting research to zero, my Believers are perpetually number one in science!
