I thought, "hey, i've got this submissive Pact Brother who gives me all his research. Why not give him all my research so that we don't duplicate?" Well, I found that the C-players research drops to almost nothing when I've been handing out research. But if I don't, they stay at about a tech every eight turns. Anyone else able to confirm this?

Yep. One of the variables in the equation for how long it takes to research a anew tech is how many techs you already have. The more techs, the more labs points needed for the next one. If you gave your brother a bunch of techs to catch him up, his current research should slow down significantly. I noticed this last night when I gave the pathetic Lal (beaten into submission and possessing only three bases) all of my techs just so he'd research something I didn't already have -- now he's down to a new tech every 41 years. So it goes. |

So better give him all the techs one turn before he would complete a research of his own. |

That's exactly what happened (by luck not design). I give him a pile of tech, and the next time the Info tally comes up, Lal's the tech leader. So I checked out his stats, and sure enough he had grabbed Pre-Sentient Algorithms. I called him up and he gave it to me. So I did get something out of the deal (aside from the base I traded all the tech for). I just don't expect anything new. I may try the same thing with the other stoogies. P.S.: this game's already in the bag, and I'm continuing out of curiosity (seeing how long it takes Miriam to transcend). There's no way I would trade anything for that much tech under normal circumstances. It feels a little strange being Miriam the tech-monger. |
