Contrary to a seeming popular belief, Yang is not the "ultimate builder." Part of the building strategy is fast research, and though Yang is quite capable of this just after the initial stages and until the late mid-game, he doesn't compare before and after. Fortunately, though, Yang is one of the best builders, as well as the best conqueror, so in MP games he is immensely difficult to beat. Obviously I consider him incredible in single player games as well (seeing as I've mentioned a few times why I think the Hive is the best faction). Free Market is not a good choice, because it makes little sense-- the only number you really need to get to is -1 economy, because this is essentially the same as 0. Wealth is the obvious solution to this, and is a good choice providing you don't plan to build up a military while using it. Otherwise, knowledge is an excellent choice. The reason Yang is such a good builder is simple. Low initial energy is quickly overcome by building lots of bases. With the +2 support, he can easily support 2 formers along with a military, so solar collectors are up early and Yang can potentially take over in research for a good while. Boreholes are a blessing not long after. So for the stage in which you will be conquering everyone and dominating with Yang (before the late game), you really cannot be beaten unless someone manages to take you out early (such as the University with fast research to Impact weapons). |
