There has been a lot of stragtegies here in the MP forum on how to win.
As most who have some MP games under the belt will agree(I believe)the strategies against a human opponent will have to be rather different than the ones against the ai.
For instance against the ai its very easy get this and that special project, get air units and blast them out of the map.
Against human opponents its however quite different. Typically both will be going for the same SPs and getting the one you want is not as easy as against the ai.
Also playing against an opponent "usually nearly as clever as yourself" it becomes almost as important to prevent them from growing as it gets getting stronger yourself.
I have for instance played a few games against rather newbies (who usually want to be uni)and its rather amusing to see (if you manage to make them not get - meaning you get or an ai get - human genome and virtual world then once their cities start hitting size 4-6 they completely bog down trying to keep their drones in line while you are racing along.
A favorite strategy of mine is to go for what is needed to become governor (empath guild and one or two allies). It is amazing what you can do by first preparing and then raising sea levels three or four times. Personally I found ruling the council is vastly underestimated.
Its great advantage that you can see what everyone else are building and how far they are. Then to try to get pacts or treaties with most AIs and wiping out the ones that insist on sticking with the other guy. Especially a couple of surrendered factions voting your way at every council decision and giving you trade while cutting the opponents trade will get you a lot of extra energy.
Anyway I would like your experiences in playing against others. How do you best make Morgan into a pauper, and how do you drive Miriam to the point that she will swear that all she ever wanted to be is a peaceful missionair that of course is full of respect for the convictions of others.
I will be posting some of my tips as we go along and hope to hear a lot of yours.
Additionally i would like starting, mid-game and end-game strategies.
An obvious one is of course a first strike regardles of pacts, treaties and what know I, with PBs on the cities of the opponent that has PBs in them. This is a not often mentioned, not very fair or pretty but extremely effective strategy. Takes them by surprise every time and usually decides the game right there.
Let me hear yours.
