First of all, I have noticed numerous times that people mention taking over another race and get a lot of tech from their submission. I have had races submit, become my slaves, and give me money and tech when doing so, but what else is the decrepit faction for after that?

Second, one time while playing as Morgan, I had a difficult start out because within 10 turns of being established, two of my bases suddenly gave me a message that they had left my control to be under the Peacekeepers. So there I am, screwed over with almost no bases and about 25 turns into the game (quick math: that's a bad start out). I have at the point no credits because I have been spending them to get more colony pods among other useful items and an income of about 10 creds/turn. Now if anyone would like to tell me why I have heard hype about how great the crappy Morganites are, then please let me know. Thank you.

I guess you've just got to keep enough money in the bank to make it too expensive for those other power hungry creeps to buy your people out. Apparently not even Morgan Enterprises was built in a day. >.

Fist, Submitted Factions are good for Governor Votes, and Commerce.

Second, cuss and swear and then start from scratch.

Submitted factions are also useful staging bases and repair bases for your wars against other, unsubmitted factions.

I never use surrendered factions to boost my research. By the time they surrender to me their bases are really pathetic. Even more pathetic than before they attacked me. Their research rate is usualy a couple hundred turns for a discovery. But it's nice having them bow down and admit they are weak and worthless.

Thanks for the replies but they were not all that specific for what I was looking for. Clerification: When I was Morgan and I lost my bases to the U.N. for no good reason, I was NOT at war with them (was good friends in fact), they did NOT attack me, and I did NOT give them that base but it told me the city rebelled and turned over to the U.N. I have talked to others and they say they have never heard of this. Thanks.

Happened to me once. You've gotta boost happiness in your Faction. Get martial units in your cities, rec commons, whatever. If your bases are too rioty, they will revoly and join some other Faction.

revoly=revolt

jam373: yes, JT3 is correct. Your informants haven't played in all conditions. Indeed, I've played many games, but there are some events I've yet to see, such as the Asteroid Impact.

If you think you're hard done by as Morgan losing bases to the PKs, imagine how I felt as UoP when a base rebelled and joined my arch enemy Yang, whose previous territory was across a wide ocean.

Worse followed: the foul fiend later Planet Busted my capital, destroying four or five excellent secret projects.

Zoetrope, what is the Asteroid Impact that you are talking about? The story you told about your base getting taken by Yang sounds like a re-loading game. One of my favorite past-times is re-loading right before I get screwed over to try to prevent it. It's partially cheating but the computer does many unfair things too (e.g. Winning a battle where I have a 4:1 chance of winning).

I had an asteroid impact in one of my early games. I'd built 2/3 of my SP's in one base and the asteroid made a direct hit on it. The damage radius was about the same as a singularity PB without the water.

This is not unfair. This is merely probability working against you. After all, if you have a 4:1 advantage, that means, statistically, you should lose 1 out of every 5 battles. But if you were actually to lose 1 in 5 battles, I bet you'd be upset.
