I don't understand the AI sometimes. I was playing the UoP, with the knowledge social engineering on and everything else was set to the default, mainly because Morgan started to flip when I used Green. Anyway, I was just minding my own business building base facilities not really any military units,I thought since I had a pact with Morgan and the Spartans surrendered, and the PK were fighting the Hive, and I had treaties with everyone, there'd be no problem, right...WRONG! Out of nowhere a Gaian ship comes along and I get a message from Diedre (stupid @!#$) that she demands over 6000 e.c. I told her to stick it and she attacked me. She invaded my main bases and my sea bases near hers. Well I started to mobilize every unit I had and started ammassing one huge army. I had my plan and I started cleaning house. Well then she offers a truce. I accepted, she then kindly asked me to remove my units. I thought no problem, and I asked her to remove hers, guess not!!! She declares another vendetta. Pacifist, I think not, what's the deal. Needless to say, no more Gaians. And I was playing on normal agression.

I had several dozen bases one time, and Morgan had two. He's supposed to be a pacifist as well, but he just attacked me. I blockaded his bases, and he wouldn't sign a treaty until I was just about to take his second city.

I think taht if a faction is very powerful or very weak, they act rather chaoticly rather than how they are supposed to.

Well CS, here's my best advice. Screw with these races in this order if you want to win a TI game or lower. Spartans, Believers, Hive, UoP, Gaians, Morganites. If you don't, you'll lose to them really quick.
And screwing is not war. Actually, by getting them to war with another faction while you just kick it and build facilites is the best way. PRobes teams are the way.

There is definately something wrong with Dierdre. The manual says pacifistic, yet she declares vendetta more easily than anyone. It must surely be a bug. Pacifistic, myass.

Heck, I got nuked by the Gaians earlier today! You'd think that the Gaians would be the least likely faction to use a planet buster..

Yeah. Me too. What's the deal with Deirdre Planetbusting my @#$!. Sure I was driving her to oblivion, but she was the only faction in the game to use a Planetbuster. Thought it was pretty ironic.

What was also really ironic: every time I talked to Morgan he'd nag at me for my Green economics, then call Vendetta on me, but through the whole game and Deirdre had a treaty. Made me so mad. Had to fight everyone!

Hey!
Why u r so sure that Gaians should be pacifist? Yeah, of course, they can be very peaceful, but I like this faction to play a war game. Just using Fundy/Green/Power gives them so huge bonuses that it is quite easy to defeat everyone with no problem (or with very small problems). Paradigm economy, high morale and excellent probe > just slower science (one turn compare to Demo/Planned/Welth)and growth. And these worms... FREE worms. You have a hell if was attacked by Deidre :-)

And I also was nuked by Deidre (when defeated Gaia's Landing) :-)

My exprience with Gaia is positif:

When I played hive and I had a police/green/know and I was the most powerful civilization close followed by the believers and Gaia was the third. Gaia was extremely friendly. and she helped me with destroying the believers and the spartans. And after that with her vote I get a diplomatic victory.

The Gains and the Hive are the only factions that have used a Planetbuster in my game. I took over Diedre's colonies on Garland Crater once (nice colonies, but no secret projects or headquarters yet) and she turned Garland Crater into a real crater! 6 closely packed colonies were taken out! Now what's the sense of that? It didn't even slow down by conquest (recently conquered cities are a pain anyway) and got her vedettas all the way around. Surpised the heck out me, I must say!
