Hi all. Time for another newbie to ask a question. Is there anything special I can do with the special locations that i find on Plant like Mount Planet, or that ring of monoliths. I always seem to be near Mount Planet and I have seen others like the ridge and crater. Can I build something onthem to get extra resources or are they just there for show?

Check in the manual. Under terrain features (I think) it lists the attributes of the special terrain features. Note that the Borehole Cluster will not be in the manual, as this feature was added in v3.
