OK, how the heck do I set up the game (level, rules, etc) where tech, diplomacy, and building rule the game; as opposed to having to get into a war with the "neighbors" every 20 years or so?? I don't play via the internet, just with A1. Thanks for the input!! It's always appreciated!Mike W. -

You could reset the other factions profiles to non-agressive (see manual, I know they can be modified) and/or play on larger planet maps. Haven't tried this myself but it should delay or cut back on contact between factions and makes the more warlike factions into kinder, gentler, shining points of light, mmmph, heh. (That's what it -should- do, anyhow) |

Always expect war from the Beleivers and Hive (the aggressive factions). The other factions will generally be friendly if you have a decent sized military relative to them and don't have SE choices that conflict with their agendas. If you have a wimpy military, you'll get no respect, even from so-called pacifist factions. |

The only war you really have to fight is with your neighbors. But if you force them into submission early, and then let them act as a buffer state, then that's really the only wars you should ever fight. But really, you should know that wars are the an integral 1/4th of the game. |

I agree with K. Leave the settings, but work harder at diplomacy and defense ... protect your friends ... try to transcend with little violence. I rarely see PBs or advanced military applications on Thinker.MC "Take the high road; defend the high ground." |

Possibly the fastest way to get the aggressive factions to hate you is be the leader of the pack. Suddenly they'll park sea colonies on your borders (Yang and Santiago) or just so seethignly ballistic (Miriam). At the points in the game where you get fusion Morgan comes demanding it no matter how puny he is and will fight to against enormous odds to get it. At orbital spaceflight Yang and Santiago and Miriam will have bloodlust for planet busters, if you give and and give it too them then you'd better have about 20 orbital defense pods up! As a matter of fact I've had in a single round Deirdre...DEIRDRE!...actually demand my entire energy reserve as a fee for her planetary efforts! No there is on ONE WAY to truely keep the wolves from the door, be noble and actually build a sizeable faction WITHOUT very many brushes at all and here it is! ------ TEMPORAL ENGINEERING ------ Your faction is on a different planet in a different century. You faction has developed a secret weapon to deal with the other factions, TEMORAL ENGINEERING! It is accomplished thusly: In the game menu check "Pause at end of turn." Then SAVE THE GAME AT THE END OF THE TURN BEFORE YOU CLICK THE BUTTON TO MOVE ON! At this point if anyone declares mayhem upon you, demands technology or whatnot, simply reload the game and the chances or more than even the next time you move to the next turn it won't have happen at all! The AI will have decided it just didn't happen this turn! And THAT's not cheating, merely TEMPORAL ENGINEERING! Do and enjoy! |
