I can't seem to figure out how to make a paradrop, although the other factions certainly have it down to a fine art! Thanks in advance for any helpful tips.

1) Build units with Drop Pod option.2) Make sure your drop units are in a city or an airbase [can be constructed by formers]. 3) Press "i". A parachute icon will appear. Your drop range is 6 squares from your starting position until you get Orbital Drop capability by either researching the tech or building Space Elevator. Once you have Orbital Drop, you have unlimited range paradrop capability. However, you are not allowed to drop within 3 squares of an enemy city with Aerospace Complex. |

I've not tried it but, might you be able to if you are dropping onto one of your own units ? |

right clicking on a target square during the drop units turn (in a city) will pop up a drop here? yes/no box if that square is in your drop range (orbital insertions permit drops anywhere.enemy ZOCs and air power/aerospace in the drop area can prevent paradrops, a window will pop up to tell you why you can't drop there. |

Yes, having an unit already present will allow you to drop into otherwise blocked areas. It's similar to the other unit securing a landing zone.In game terms, Aerospace Complexes and defending air-superiority fighters create a ZOC which you can't drop into. But ZOC does not apply when you are moving into a space already occupied by your unit. |

I've never tried this, but can you make a paradrop from an aircraft carrier? I would think it would count as an airbase, but I'm not sure. |

Right Click where you want to drop. Don't forget, you can walk your drop units across the map by dropping in your cities close by (no movement points used) and repeating until you are close to your enemies.

Combat troops can drop any number of times (per turn) from anywhere to anywhere (that's not under enemy ZOC), and can immediately move. But if they land in the open, they suffer damage.Non-combat units (eg, drop colony and drop probe) can drop only once (per turn), and cannot move after being dropped. |

Wow there's more to this drop thing than I realised !Maybe that is why, in the last game, I seemed to be able to drop and then move straigt after, yet in the present one I drop and that's it. It sits there and gets bashed. Well you learn something new every day. |
