In my last game my bases kept getting hit by Yang's conventional missiles. If anyone has some effective ideas on how to defend against missiles I would appreciate their sharing it.

A conventional missle payload really isn't that powerfull a weapon (12) and really isn't all that out of line with other weapons that are available arround that time (plasma shard, etc). So, you defend against conventional missles just as you would an air attacker armed with plasma shard. A silksteel unit with AAA special ability in a base with an aerospace complex should be enough to defeat or discourage any conventional missle attacks. Units in the open are a bit trickier, but if you remember to use defenders with AAA special ability and put them in good terrain (forest or rocky) you should have at least an even chance.

well for one thing i'm almost positive that missles have an attack of 18...the most effective way of dealing with missles besides building super units is to build police infantry 1-1-1 police and set them as your primary defender...they cost 10 you add clean and they cost 16 i think, missles cost much more than that and missles aren't really an effective means of killing them (cost wise)plus they also take care of drone problems

and if you want to abuse build quantum missles and when you got a bunch select them and hit shift-a to automate them...and then you too have infinite range missles...one game i had like 18 bases each making a missle every turn and the base goveners were putting them on automate...i had already won the game...and then the computer would amass up about a hundred missles before it would make an attack, but it when it would attack every single enemy city would be hit and most times every single defender in every city would die...it was really funny, small bases without perimeter defenses were being wiped off the map...
i felt like the usa launching tomahawks against everybody

RAS,

I usually only have to deal with this annoyance for about 10 to 20 turns per game at the most. If you're not hopelessly behind in tech, you should be at or better reactor value and between 4 and 6 defense strength vis-a-vis Yang when he starts gathering enough missiles to make a nuisance of himself. Make sure each base has at least one top reactor, high armor, AAA garrison unit, aerospace complex, and a sensor within 2 squares and you should be able to ride out the storm. Command centers help for repairing the damage between turns if he gets single minded about a particular base.

The other tactic (mentioned by korn469) may work also if you have a large number of cities and can easily reinforce the target city. It is not, however, my choice.

The ultimate tactic is to invade his homelands and put the bastard in a punishment sphere.

And still another tactic is to leave the city undefended for a while; if you can deal with the drones.

Even Quantum engine isn't enough when the enemy is willing to rain down multiple missles at you. In a game as Gaians, the Hive rained down an average of 3-4 missles on my captured sea bases. I was building 1-<5>-1*3 troopers with Aerospace Comples and Tachyon Field. Didn't work. It might survive 1, perhaps 2, hits, but #3 always kills it. And since I get hit every turn, there's no way of reinforcing it.

Bottom line - Neutronium Armor [value 8] is where you start to turn things around. And once you hit Stasis Field, missles are useless.

Hover Tank, AAA, 2x Police, best engine, best armor. The extra HP's from Tank Chassis will come in handy! And heck, The tank will more likely destroy the missle. My tanks can handle about 3-4 missle attacks Or if you really want to be nasty, use psi armor (but that's a really high tech shielding) if you have high morale. Personally, I use the tank defense . Tachyon Field and Perimeter Defense constructs work wonders!
