Hello all!
Here are some troubles I've been having with the game. First of all, why building Paradise Garden? By the time I have it, I already have much better buildings to build, and each Empath I assign generates something like 5 Talents.
Someone here uses Punishment Sphere reguraly? Only use it under Free Economics to assign a city lotsa troops.
And the wonder that gives 2 less drones to Planned Economics and 50% economy to Free Economics - someone used it?
Recycling Tanks is another thing. You either build it right on start (but then you might as well build a former - it'll take you less time and it'll be more efficient in the long run) or you build it when the town is large in 2 turns - and then it's utter garbage.

Can anyone help me understand the idea beyond this buildings? Thanks in advance!

recycling tanks is so amazing. Always get it as soon as possible. It is better than a former early game that is for sure.

A former: takes time to make improvements
each improvement only gives you one resource (on average)
so it takes three improvements to equal one recycling tanks. Also since you can only get two improvements per square you need to be working two squares. Early game you should always be pumping colony pods so you can't make full use of terraforming.
later in the game you should still make them, imagine them as another worker but that he doesn't need to eat. So you are saving two nutrients. So in effect recycling tanks are like another person that produces five resources and isn't a drone.

I almost never use Punishment Spheres, but I can see the point, especially for big bases if your Police rate is REALLY low. It's a quick fix for a massive drone problem, with some nasty side effects.

The one that gives 2 fewer drones if Planned , 1 fewer if green, and +50% Econ if Free Market is the Longevity Vaccine. It's definitely not a game-breaker, but it has its uses. I'm not saying it's a high-priority build for anyone, but I'll ususally go for it.

I've never really felt the need for Paradise Gardens, but sometimes I"ll build them anyway, if I have nothing better to do (or if the drones start to act up).

eladamir, you have inadvertently stumbled upon a Morganite strategy for fighting war while having free market.

Add a new entry to the SMAC dictionary--
The Kent State Treatment: Building punishment spheres while under free market, to build troops for war.
