Here's what I did when I saw Morgan's last base being attacked by miriam. He had no defenders left, so I thought, "That's the end of Morgan..." I decided to try something. I contacted Morgan, and exchanged techs as many as i could. Finally I asked for a loan. I got a small one, but didn't have to pay the interests because he was eradicated the next turn. Good thing. I was playing without "tech from conquest".

Not a bad trick but you can often maufacture this situation. In my current game (as UOP) Morgan started next to the Gaians who were possibly three times Morgans size. I was allied to Gaians so asked for a sizable loan from Morgan then goaded him into vendetta. Gaians promptly declared war on Morgan and wiped him out within a few turns - debt cancelled. Works even better as Santiago - "Dearest Morgan I'm in urgent need of energy credits" "why of course have 300 repayable at 50 per turn for the next millenium" "Oh Morgan look atall the tanks that bought!" |

I've done that to the UOP in two games in a row, gained 3-6 techs in one turn. But there was an added bonus in the last game. I went as far as allying with him (Miriam was about to kill him and I was already at war with her) just to get map data on half the world. Of course, I was about to scheme something just when a sun burst hit and prevented communication the next turn. I was going to trade UOP's last base just when Miram was about to take it with one of my small bases. The purpose was not to save the UOP but rather give the former UOP base to my Hive neighbors to get them to goad them into war with Miram before the Hive had a chance to go to war with me (the Hive and Believers were right across a narrow channel from each other). |

Nuwave - I thought I was sneaky at times.Trading a base with another faction just to put them in harms way is a brilliant idea. With a bit of luck you could have most of the factions fighting each other for most of the game with that.Even better you could get everyone to gang up on miriam / yang or whoever and (hopefully) eliminate them without ever lifting a finger! |

Trading bases is a good reason to use submissive Pact Brothers. In the course of a war, you can sometimes capture useless bases that you don't want to bother manage or drag down the overall efficiency of your empire. Give them to a submissive pact brother. If the faction you are fighting haven't declared war on your pact brother, they can't even attack. In any case, it helps your commerce even if your pact brother only has a handful of size 1-4 cities. |

After you give them to your stooge -- I mean pact brother, you can still position all kinds of units there for attack without consequence. What I find particularly amusing is when I and my vendettee are both pact bros with the same faction -- and units of both factions are hanging out in the same base. Sort of like Chiron's Mos Eisley. |

Here's one you might enjoy. I was Gaia on Talent level. I ran into the PK very early and took one of their two bases. Lal surrendered. When the first governer vote was called the race was between me and Lal. The vote was 126 to 0. Lal voted for me along with Santiago. Everyone else abstained. Just thought that was kind of cool. Having Lal as an ally (especially a submissive pactbrother) can make your political life far easier. If you have the SP that gives you all the commlinks and the +50% vote bonus you can elect yourself planetary gov anytime you like. I'm normally too busy building other things to bother though. (but as a Spartan I just let someone else build it for me) |
