How do these things work?? Once I create them are they automatically deployed? After reading the docs, it states that an undeployed defense pod cna be used to stop a missile attack. How??? THanks

Yes, you create them and they are automatically deployed. You don't "see" them. I think there is a Function key that brings up a list of ones you have. They automatically stop PB's when someone tries to use them on you. |

If you hit F6, you will go to the orbital status screen. It shows how many of each orbital facility you have. Each ODP can attack twice. First, it shoots at the incoming PB. All Pods take a turn. Once the Pods have all taken a shot, they can make a 2nd shot at it, but now, each 2nd shot completely destroys the pod. In addition, Orbital Pods can be used to destroy the orbital facilities owned by other factions. Be aware it's extremely difficult to take out another ODP with your own ODP, but it's a piece of cake to destroy farms/mines/power satellites. |

On this orbital subject. I've never seen the computer actually build any orbital anythings. I want to see what it is like to conduct orbital combat. The second thing is the fact that solar flares seem to be rather convenient. All defense pods destroyed just before a missile launch and just after I get a large number of them up.

It's actually not that exciting to do orbital combat. SMAC is primarily a planet-based game, after all.On the orbital status screen, there is a second tab, which leads to orbital attack screen. If another faction has orbital facilities up, you select the faction, select the type of facility you'd like to attack, and then click on Attack. you'll either succeed or fail. If you succeed, there's a brief flare in the screen and the offending satellite does down. If you fail, you lose one defense pod. |

Thanks for telling me about the Anti-satellite option, I saw the tab before but never really knew what it was for because I have not seen many other factions create satellites(Yang was the only one and that was ODPs only) - of course if you hit them early in the game, they won't be able to waste their time building them. I usually just saw those cute points of light floating up in space, said it was nice graphics - but so what - it doesn't do me any good. Thanks again. |
