As someone who plays the Gaians on a regular basis, I have found times when Planet can provide me with more ways of wreaking havok than anything I could build up. The ability to release organisms into the wild has made that job a lot easier too. Here are my favorites:

1. Find Planets biggest polluter (usually one of the biggest factions). Plant fungal mass on borders. Watch the fun. ( for best results, time it when AC-B is about to reach perihelion )

2. Plant fungus in water 7-10 squares off your coast. Patrol area regularly with needlejets to spot slowed ships. Attack with jets or Isle of Deep.

3. Patrol fungus on enemy landmass with high-morale unit. Capture mind worms. Upgrade with monolith if possible. When you've got 3-5 release them into the wild by your enemies cities. ( no diplomatic penalties )

4. Move extra IoD's to clusters of enemy sea-bases. Release into wild. ( no diplomatic penalties; works well in conjunction with #2 )

5. Plant fungus in water on coast of enemy continents. Let it creep onto the land. Use for various evil purposes. ( works best very early, before they can take out sea formers, or very late, think sub or cloaked )

6. Plant fungus in a high traffic area ( water between several factions works best ).
Fill it with captured IoD's (which can be strategically released), a few high-moral ships, and a few probe teams on IoD's if you've got extra cash. The bottom line is nothing they own that goes in, ever comes back out.

Plant sea fungus at the tip of peninsulas, that way if it grows they have that much further to go to get around it.

Also, where you find small straights, plant some fungus between the islands or continents, let it expand, and park some IoD there. They cant see you, and you know they wont have enough movement to get to you AND attack, so they are toast!

Same thing can be done for small land connections (like Panama for the Americas)
and plant some there. Pain in the ass to move between the areas!

Here's my new one:

Plant a fungus squares on a factions coast so at least 1 square is completely surrounded by fungus. Use this area for covertly landing probe teams without them being immediatly ejected or for building up an invasion force. Works best if you have the thing that let's you cross fungus like normal squares.

Take transports with a gazillion formers (with maximum armor) on them onto the mainland of enemy territory (only works when the'yre on an island). Make them planet fungus all over the place. Late in the game, this will greatly accelerate the fungal blooms. Early in the game, this kills their production and will take out a couple of cities w/ mindworms.. And when AC goes into perhilion (you can even time your formers to do this), the mind worms can completely destroy their empire. For an even better effect, use cloaked formers
