I dont know about anyone else but the best tactic I have encountered in the game is to attack from 3 or even for positions on the enemies cities. using a variety of different units. My favourites though are the locusts of Chiron and Mind Worm Demon Boils. They kick ass over any other units apart from grav tanks with PSI attack modifiers. Anyway does anyone else have a preffered attack strategy that they would like to share with the world.

If you have not upgraded to patch V3.0 yet attack with Submarine aircraft carriers, they cannot be seen and can bring about a nasty surprise for an unsuspecting foe.

I have a favorite strategy called "dislocation". First, you attack and keep attacking a base on the battle front. They move all their units there to defend their cities from the attack. Then, you move three or four full transports to the other side of their territory. Unload, and boom. You've got four or five bases under your control, simply because their units were far, far away. Works great.

One of my favorite tactics is to use formers to plant lots of fungus around the enemy, then ship over lots of mind worms/locusts.
This means that I can pretty much devastate an enemy, since my demon boils are very hard to defeat and with all the fungus I can simply recruit new forces on the spot!
The other advantage of this is that the wild mind worms, if not being recruited by me, will also be attacking my enemy. In other words I get Planet to help fight my battles!
This tactic works best if the opposition are on an island, and a slightly altered version of this works on water bases as well!

Sabotaging the presure dome, then sinking the city.

When I tried sabotaging the pressure dome before, it would not let me do it on a sea base. I dont know why have you got a special method?

I never used planes much in civII but I have found them very practical in smac.

Usally when I get planes the computer havn't got the tech to defend himself agains them or
he hardly use tactical planes.

I build some seabases as base for my planes.
Then I build large amounts of planes. The I use the planes to find units on the ground (they have a lower defense bonus than city units), and use them to train up my bombers to commandoes and elite.

Then I use them to crush units in both his cities and on the ground. I don't invade any cities before there are very few forces left.
Then I paradrop units into undefended cities.
I let these units jump to new cities each turn. I don care about defending my cities, since the computer has few units left to counter attack. This way my units aren't tied up in defence.

I just used the plane/paradrop combo to roll up the Gaians in the last game I played. They were spread across a narrow continent.

One thing that helped - after a plane attacks, I noticed it defaults to returning to the base it came from. So after I took a city over, the plane that was attacking it would fly back away from the front. Solution: click on the planes and order them to go to the newly captured city just after the drop troops waltz in. That way they go to the new city and are ready to attck the next turn.

6 fusion needlejets + 1 drop missile squad = Yang torturing Deidre.

I've found this strat quicker & safer than building up the transports needed for a proper invasion.
