I think the energy production of the other factions determines what the cost of cornering the market will be. If the other factions have been subdued to just a few cities, energy production is low and the market is cheaper to corner.
True?
Well, it sounds good, anyhow.

If you want silly cornerin the market.

Me as peacekeepers cost 45000.
Morgan incredibly small faction 10000 or so.

We both had the same ratings - I fixed it to check. This is on the easiest level to. Please, note my nation was by far the largest.

Fascinating, Milamber. . .I remember hearing somewhere (One of my BEST sources, BTW) that the cost of cornering the market was roughly equivalent to bribing every city in the game to join your side. Your experience suggests it's similar to bribing every one of your OWN cities to "revolt."

Cornering the energy market is by far the stupedest way to win, I mean, it costs someting like 650000 credits to corner the market, I don't know how much the Ascent to Transcendance costs to BUY, but it's probably a quarter of that. Oh, and the 65000 is not a joke, it happened to me on a huge map on transcend (WAAAAAAAY to easy to abuse the AI, when you're a civ 1&2 colonization MOM MOO 1&2 veteran).

Cornering the energy market is rather useless as a late game tactic since it is usually too expensive. However, it definitely comes into play in a few circumstances:

1) The "unusual" situation I discovered where if you horde your money early, beeline for economic victory tech, you will usually have just enough money just as you hit the tech. I now have this "tactic" working on every difficulty (needed some adjustment on transcend). See my previous post, don't remember what it is called ... maybe it is gone. If it is I will repost.

2) When you are winning anyway by military means and want to end the game quicker. This might result in a slightly higher score since the game is ending earlier. I am not sure.

3) If you decide to turn off the cheesy transcendence victory (which is FAR to easy to get). Economic victory becomes very very attractive.

Some things to remember:

1) Subservient factions do not appear to be included in the price of cornering the market.

2) As the manual states it is roughly equal to the cost of mind probing every city (I think it is in fact equal to the cost to mind probe minus the military units ... not 100% sure though). Therefore, it is definitely worthwhile to go on a probe team fiesta just before cornering the market. Blow up "make happy" facilities. Drone riot cities galore. The cost will come WAY down.

Bill for cornering the energy market advice - 1000 energy credits.
