This is a theory I've been trying to test for a while, but so far, I haven't found anything conclusive. Can you avoid Eco-Damage from Boreholes by building them outside (and far) your base's radius and then send a supply unit to gather the minerals? Or is Eco-Damage from production based entirely on the amount of minerals you harvest? If not, how much Eco-Damage can you avoid in this way. Also, will building the remote Boreholes near opponent's bases transfer the threat of mindworm intervention to them, or not? If anyone has an answer or any ideas, please post a reply or send me an e-mail. I'm also looking for other way of avoiding Eco-Damage (aside from the obvious "ecology" structures).

After you build the Hybrid Forest, Forest extensively. Then You can build all of the Mineral Bonus improvements w/o much if any EcoDamage. |

Hey Masakari, I had the same idea about placing bareholes outside the base radius and sending crawlers out, but it does not work. Each supply crawler is assigned to one of your bases, which increases production and possibly, the eco-damage in the base that the crawler is supported from. I don't think you're allowed to terraform your enemies land. Forests are the answer. |

Hi, I have been playing the game for a week now and I have some questions about eco-damage. My bases have become very large, over 30 citizens each. I was fine when they had little over 20 but now I'm in trouble. Somehow the eco-damage has gone insane and now its over 50. I also have noticed that drones seem to have a negative effect on the ecosystem. I need help, because my bases are being obliterated by fungus squares! One other thing, the term cumulative, does it mean that I can scrap an older buildings when I build new ones? |

Guitarfreak Cumulative could be translated into cooperative insteadt. If you have fx a Genejack Factory and a Nanoreplicator in one of your bases, the fact that they each are "Cumulative with all facilities of this type" means that they both improve mineral output. About the Eco-damage, you could scrap some of the mineral boosting facilities, that will help. Though I must say that I always just plant forest everywhere and build Tree Farm and Hybrid Forest in my bases. I only rarely build any of the mineralboosting facilities at all!!!Onepaul I think that you can terraform any square no matter whether it is in your territory or not, if you want to terraform your enemy's territory just make sure your formers are protected. |

From what I understand of the ecology formula, you add up all the forming imporvements, double if they are worked, then add 8 for each borehole and 4 for each condensor. Subtract 1 for each forest. However, if you have a Tree Farm, HALVE that number. If you have a Hybrid Farm, ELIMINATE that number. Therefore you can build boreholes to your heart's content(almost) and not worry about the extra damage. The only problem is the high mineral count. |

Thanks to all who posted. After a few games, I agree forests are the way to go. In my last game, I played a custom map with native life forms on abundant and noticed that eco-damage sets in sooner. How much of a modifier does playing with life forms on abundant lend to the eco-damage formula? |
