I never really had the need to nerve staple. The term causes my nerves to tremble with fear. I could see times when you might use it.. but 10 year sanctions is not really good when your Morgan...
Anyone else have any stories on this subject???

If you're going to nerve staple, go all the way. Nerve staple forever and fight people when you have to. It works well with the University at higher difficulty levels and Planned Economy/Democracy for population boom with Children's Creche. Just Nerve staple all the time and you don't have to worry about the large populations you're getting. Nerve stapling has the following advantages:

1) No production or energy spent on keeping people happy.

2) Very large populations.

3) As long as you're fighting someone to the death anyway, you can use whatever atrocities don't make everyone else go to war with you as well.

In my opinion these far outweigh the loss in commerce income. The problem comes if you have to fight too many people at the same time. I'm not sure how this works with the upgrades, but in the original version I believe it's not too difficult to fight only one faction at a time.

I don't staple either. I don't know what nerve stapling is, but I don't like it and I won't use it. Nerve gas, on the other hand, is fun and useful.

I've never had to staple before, so I don't have any opinion on it. Thinking about it, though, I agree with Cakrapani. If you got to do it, go all the way!

I do have a question, though. Doesn't the effect of stapling diminish as you use it more and more? If so, is it calculated via the number of times you used it per base, or the number of times you used it period?

I never wanted to nerve-staple either. However, in my current game, I'm playing as Diedre and it seemed my only option. Miriam and the Spartans have wiped out LAL, UofP and Morgan before I even had a chance to blink! Miriam has almost decimated the Hive (although I nibbled on a few of Yang's bases myself) and he is now down to 1 base. Believers and Spartans are both huge and teamed-up to repeal the UN charter. I figured with the UN charter repealed and no real allies, what could it hurt, so I started nerve-stapling all drone infested cities... its helping some. At least I don't have to waste energy or resources gathering to quell the riots.. Both Miriam and I have just stolen Air Power from the Hive (the only faction to have developed it -- thats how EARLY THIS GAME HAS GOTTEN AWAY FROM ME!) and I think my only way to survive will be to get a dozen needlejets in the air to start harassing her as soon as possible -- any turn now she is goin to come after me with that fanatical army of hers. Boy what I wouldn't give for a few dozen planet busters right now-- but they are still way up on the tech tree. I think I am going down... Send reinforcements, please!
